Riverhead Firemen G>ntrol Blaze r Riverhead firemen were called out early Friday morning to extinguish a blaze of suspicious origin that destroy ed an unoccupied frame house on Union Avenue, near Northville Turn pike, Riverhead. Firemen fought the blaze for two hours, after receiving the call at 4:20 a.m. About 60 vamps and several pieces of equipment were on h and but were unable to save the building. The home was owned by Anna Jennings of 430 Union Ave., River head. Fire Chief Stephen Mazura said the total loss was about $15,000. River head firemen and police are investi gating. Goodale of Riverhead, has been chosen as this y e a r’s recipient of the Theordore Roosevelt Award for Outstanding Voluntary Service to Central Suffolk Hospital. Robert F. Ecroyd, Central Suffolk administra tor, announced that Mr. Goodale was the unanimous choice of the hospital’s board of directors, particularly in view of his many hours of dedicated service during the hospital's recent expan sion program. The award will be presented at a dinner honoring the recipients on June 18. Traditionally, the Theodore Roose velt Award recipient is a person whose voluntary service to a hospital is recognized by the hospital and the community as being exceptional. In past years, recipients have included people from the boards of directors, McCORMACK HONORED Mrs. Mildred McCormack, presi dent of the Central Suffolk Hospital Auxiliary, was among those honored at an auxiliary recognition luncheon at the Porterhouse Riverboat Restaur ant, Smithtown, on June 3. The annual luncheon is an expression of appreci ation for the many voluntary services which the auxiliaries contribute to the hospitals. It is sponsored by the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council and is held to honor presidents of member hospital auxiliaries and to install newly elected officers of the Nassau- Suffolk Council of Hospital Auxili aries. Annual Book Sale At Riverhead Library The Friends of the Riverhead Free Library will be having their annual book sale on Friday and Saturday, June 13 and 14 at the Yellow Barn behind the library. The sale will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m on both days. Stock up for your summer reading and at the same time support your library. If you have old books to donate for the sale, bring them to the Riverhead Library or call for a pick up (727-2356). The proceeds of the sale go to special programs and equipment for the library. Come in and browse and you will buy. auxiliaries, volunteer groups, medical staff, and from the local communities. Each of these recipients has given something of himself to be incorporat ed into his hospital, and without them , the voluntary nonprofit hospitals could not exist. The award last year went to Blair Patterson, the former administrator, and in 1973 the auxilia ries were honored. Mr. Goodale served for six years on the board of directors of Central Suffolk Hospital. He was elected president of tiie board in 1972. He has been a member of the Executive Committee, the Joint Conference Committee, the Budget and Finance Committee, the Public Relations Committee, the Nominating Commit tee, and the Long Range Planning Committee. He started a dietary committee and as chairman of the Building and Equipment committee. spent nearly 2,000 hours supervising construction for the board of the most recent addition to Central Suffolk Hospital. Mr. Goodale is a prominent citizen of Eastern Long Island, known especially for his work as chairman of the Riverhead Town Centralization Committee, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Aquebogue School, and Director of the Suffolk County Grand Jurors Association. He has been the president of the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce and h as headed dinners for the Boy Scouts, Cancer Society, and Salvation Army Fund. He is an active member of the Old Steeple Church in Aquebogue. As a sports man, Jesse Goodale has pitched a no-hit softball game, bowled a perfect score of 300, and he has never been defeated in Badminton. Mr. Goodale and his wife Mary live in Riverhead.
