He earned the award by successfully completing physical fit ness t e s ts a n d the Air Assault School. Susan Lappe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Lappe of South Harbor Road a n d a junior in Physical Therapy, has been initiated into Oracle, Ithaca College senior honorary society. M e m b e r s a r e selected on the basis of scholarship, participation in college activities and fellowship within the student body. It is c o n s idered one of the top h o n o rs that an Ithaca s t u d e n t can attain. Elizabeth B. Thompson, daughter of Mr. and M r s . Clem Thompson of Old Shipyard Lane, is one of 22 students from Hartwick College currently participating in the Spring Term Program in France under the supervision of Professor Alan For m a n . Miss Thompson, a French major, is living in C h a r t r e s with a French family a n d has access to local research facilities, as well as having daily contact with French students of h e r own age. She also does an in dependent study project o n an aspect of F rench life t h a t is o f special interest to her. Mr. and M r s . Martin Mclndoe of Patchogue Shores entertained Mr. and M r s. Before long m u r a ls and decorations began popping up all over. The halls a re now fully d e c o rated and everyone is anxiously awaiting tomorrow’s climax - the contests. Skits, c o n tests, a n d gam e s will all be featured. Thursday was the \T o u r de South- o l d \ bicycle race. Four team s e n t e r e d and traditional French refreshm e n ts were sold. Everyone s e e m e d to h a v e a good time. Last Monday night was the South- old-Sayville band exchange. The chorus sang many selections and the percussion a n d jazz e n s e m b les p layed as well as the band. Next Monday the Southold Band will travel to Sayville for their half of the exchange. The area’s sailing team began practice this week. Southold a n d four other schools make up the team and th e y ’re hoping for a winning pro gram . A few m e m b e r s of the NJROTC program are planning to s p e n d a few days visiting the Naval Base at Norfolk, Virginia. Next W e d n e s d a y will be Foreign Language Day. This year the classes are planning two full course meals - coq a u vin a n d turkey mole. There will be booths, gam e s and entertainm e n t as well a s food. It is h o p e d that this will May 19 is the date to rem e m b e r for the ladies who registered for the Pap Smear-Breast Self-Examination Clin ic in Mattituck. Sympathy is e x tended to Mrs. W. Mr. a n d Mrs. John W, Montgomery returned Sunday from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. John A. M o n tgomery in Voorhees, N .J ., and Mr. and Mrs. George Hoag in Dillwyn, Virginia. Their o ther daughter, Irene, was born 17 years ago on M o t h e r ’s Day, May 11. Sgt. Miller was on route to Korea a n d had to b e c o n tacted by Red Cross a b o u t the birth of his daughter. He will be stationed there for one year. Adele, Amy and 4-year-old Sandra will be staying with her parents until he returns.
