BEST FRIENDS It isn’t fun to be tnrirty when you're young. It’s more plea.sant to spend ten dollars for amusements than to put it in a bank or a life insurance policy. When you grow old it becomes a different story. Tens of thousands of men now in dire want, once had good jobs, substantial incomes, and even for tunes. They had “fun” then. They are paying the piper now. They can look forward to spending their declining year.s as wards of public or private charitable agencies, re membering with bitterness what might have been. Every man owes it to himself, to his dependents and to the society in which he lives, to prepare for the exigencies of the future. Life insurance and similar instruments of thrift are the best friends the average man has. Miss Myra VVaterhouise, a mem ber of the Ringfhamton, N. Y. school (acuity, is spending the summer at her home in Greenport. • ♦ • The I'rid win Hotel at Shelter Is land reports more advance book ings for .July and August than in ■several years. EXHIBIT OF PAINTINGS Over 100 visitors inspected the collection of marine and landscape paintings by Whitney M. Hubbard at Greenport, over the week-end. The marine subjects especially a t tracted considerable attention and much favorable comment, as many of the boats familiar in Greenport are subjects of the various paint ings. Many new works appear in the collection this year, and they have been shown before art juries or in galleries of undisputed rep utation.
