REGULAR CARSON SAYS RePublican Nomination Almct Reed Latson, the republican candidate for Justice of the Supreme Court was in Freeport on Wednesday getting acquainted with the lawyers, and all those who met the candidate liked his genial manner. He looks like the making of a good Judge. Those town lands of ours seem to be becoming important these days. I am informed that the consolidated laws automatically separate the office of County Judge and Surrogate, providing that counties With certain population shall have a separate surrogate and county Judge. Who will be the surrogate seems to be a long ways from settled, but it looks ' as if Franklin A. Coles has as good a chance as any one. Mr. Coles would make an excellent surrogate. There is one thing more important to the people of the Town of Hempstead than whether or not they shall sell their common lands to a corporation, and that is the proposed Inland Waterway. Some Mass Meetings are going to be held in this vicinity in the near future, and it is hoped, that the business men in this town will turn out strongly and en courage the men who are unselfishly working hard for the accomplishment of this great improvement. However, T hope to m eet you, so th a t we will know each other better. I secured your name in this morn ing’s papers, and your address by phoning to the Irish-American Athletic Club. Now to explain my reason for writing. There resides here an Ital ian runner who has defeated all comers at 100 yards in special m atch races on Sundays a t 10.30 A.M. The event would have to take place only on a Sunday. Yesterday the sporting fraternity of this vil lage procured a runner from Far Rockaway, b u t the Italian easily de feated him. The result was th a t the sports lost a lot of money and I include myself among them. My idea in ad dressing this letter to you is hoping I can arrange m atters w ith you to m eet this Italian next Sunday at 10.30 A. M. I fully realize th a t you are an am a te u r and it would he un wise to let any one know regarding the race other than you and myself. You would he matched against him ns a friend of mine and you would run under the name of Smith or whatever other name you might suggest. The sporting hoys would reim burse you for all your trouble and there would not be any outlay of ex penses whatsoever on your part. We would also entertain you very nicely during your brief stay here.
