Merrick rabbit breeders had twerty rabbits and six cavies at the MinWU Fair and the latter, Herbert Colvin’s exhibit,' carried off two first prizes, two seconds and one third. In other words 881/8% of his exhibit were prize winners. The 20 rabbits exhibited brought back to Merrick sixteen prizes or 80% 4/5 of the number thus were prize trinners. The prizes were distributed as follows: W. C. Mepham, District Superin tendent of Schools, with nine entries, received three first prizes, four sec ond and one third prize. Just think of it, out of nine but one received no prize. The Review feels like reward ing the little outcast a “booby” prize. Frank E. Ives, secretary of the Long Island Pet Stock Club, with nine en tries, took four first prizes, two sec onds and one third. Pretty* good, Mr. Ives, seven out of nine rabbits prize winners. Hemy Offerman; Merrick’s reliable street lamp lighter, sent two rabbits and one of them carried off a first prize. Dr. Cammann has left Merrick for the winter to remain in New York. Mr. and Mrs. Forbes, who occupied the Harvey homestead for the sum mer, have left for the city and the Harvey family has come to its Mer rick home for the winter. Last Thursday morning, while the early commuters were waiting for the train, the wild restless roar of the surf’s breakers was distinctly heard and recalled to the mind Longfellow’s lines in the prelude to Evangeline: “Loud from its rocky caverns the and residing in Merrick, was at his bench last Monday doing his work as usual. During/the morning he com plained to his ffellow workmen of not feeling welL On Tuesday he felt so badly that he was sent to the hospital by his physician and died that same night at 10:80. The employees a t the Midmer works live like one large family, know one andther intimately and work and live in perfect harmony. The shock of Mr. Meeking’s death has left a void in the factory and one not soon to be forgot ten. The writer was shown Mr. Meek- ing's working bench and told that ev erything upon it, his overalls and all, was just as he had left i t —they gazed upon it as a dacred place, loath to dis turb anything he had touched. Mr. Meeking was buried in Green field Cemetery last Saturday after- noonSat 3:00 o’clock. The etnployees, headed by Mr. Losh, marched in a body to the hotise where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. H. Scott of Freeport, Rev. Littebrandt being absent from Merrick. Mr. Meeking leaves a widow? two daughters and a son, an army man. The whole community and also the Re view extend their heartfelt ’sympathy to the bereaved family and to the men at the organ works who feel his death so keenly. W. H. Littebrandt at Home Rev. W. H. Littebrandt returned from his vacation trip last Saturday. His sunny smile and pleasant greet ings to all were sadly missed in the community and while everyone felt happy, to think he was enjoying his much needed rest, they feel just a tri fle happier to have him back. This kind of selfishness is approved of by Rev. Littebrandt. Items for this column may be sent to Miss Elsie Hess. deak, table and bracket mounting and some are attached to standards with reed edvered flower1 boxes in oval circular shapes, making a cool and pleasing, effect. ■tneli w p ta s of U u Bevtaw for sal* a t 8. THE EVIL, OF GAMBLING (The lesson of the bomb throwing) We are all inclined to gam bling in some form. The read er of the Nassau County Re view who leavea wife and kiddies in the morning, with the possibility of his being blown into eternity and leav ing them with barely enuf to bury him, is the worst gam bier 1 know—gambling with fate. Why not have part of the trump, cards even if you lose the hand? Play the game square by taking out a real man-sized insurance policy so your widow won’t have to take in washing? The Whole Secret of A Better lire Simply a Matter o f the Maker9s Policies This you will realize— oijce you try a Brunswick—that a super-tire is possible only when the name certifies that the maker is follow# ing the highest Standards. For fire making is chiefly a mat# te r bi standards and policies—cost plus Care. Any maker can build a good tire if be cares to pay per# Section’s price,; All men know Brunswick stand ards, for Brunswick products have been famous for 74 years. Formulas, fabrics and standards vary vastly in cost Reinforce ments, plies and thickness are a matter of expense. And these vari ations affect endurance. It rests ■with the maker how far he wishes to go— how much he pan afford tegive. For there are no secrets nor pati ents to hold one back. To ascertain what each mafief offers one must analyze and test some 200 tires—as our laboratories have done. Then it is a matter of comhming She best features and building ac cording to the highest standards* Once you try a Brunswick you twill understand how we have built model tires, regardless gti factory expense. •Yet Brunswick Tires cost you tlie same as other like-type tires.
