Bishop Dedicates Bellmore Church Hn the presence of over 300 persons, including representatives from south side villages and many well known Catholics from Brooklyn, the new edi fice of the Church of St. Barnabas the Apostle*, on Bedford Avenue, was dedi cated.by Right Rev. Charles E. Mc Donnell, Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Long Island, Sunday morning with impressive services. Despite the inclement weather the out- of-door ceremony was carried on with out interruption, and the crowds were comfortably seated in the ample church auditorium before rair. descended. The new structure is of Roman arch itecture throughout, erected by Charles i Johnson, contractor of this village. [ It is built entirely of frame and in ac- Vordance with the latest accepted methods of construction, and stands as a monument to the untiring efforts of Father Theodore King, formerly of St. John’s Church, South Brooklyn, who was appointed to the new parish sev-1 enteen months ago. The building cost upwards of $12,000 and when com pletely equipped will represent an ex penditure of about $15,000. A rectory which adjoins it will be completed in January. The dedicatory ceremony was begun at 9:45 o’clock, the Bishop officiating. Father James Charters, of St. Calum- kili’s Chapel, Greenpoint, delivered an eloquent sermon, choosing as his sub ject “The Rock of St. Peter,” The mass was sung by Rev. Father John Clark of St. Patrick’s Church, Dutch Kills; assisted by Father James Hig gins, of St. Joseph’s Church, Babylon, and Father George Gardner, of the Church of St. Cecilia, Brooklyn. Bishop McDonnell was assisted by Rev. Francis E. Keenan, D. D., his secre tary. Following the se.rmon Bishop Mc Donnell delivered an inspiring address upon the development of the country church, speaking at length about the need of small churches of various de-' nominations in small communities. He pictured the church as a factor in the civic life of every village within the suburban area and pointed to it as a dominant influence for good. B f i H H : The services in the church were be gun shortly after 10 o'clock. The 1 choir of the Church of St. Francis Assissj, Flatbush, sang the mass, as sisted by Miss May Murphy, organist. Among the visiting clergy were Very Rev. Dean Fuclis, of Hicksville; Very Rev. Dean Herbert Farrell, of Far Rockaway; Father William Farrell, of St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, 5 Brooklyn; Father Peter Quealy, of St. Agnes’ Church, Rockville Centre; Father Robert E. Boyle and Father, Joseph R. Smith, of the Church of Our Holy Redeemer, Freeport. A New Manufactory A foreign invention, which will en able every householder to control his , own consumption of gas, deserves the consideration of the economical house-} wives, storekeepers and everybody who appreciates a daylight illuminant for lighting as well as for cooking and heating purposes. In a specially simple constructed generator is inserted a harmless chem ical composition in the form of a bri quette and with the aid of water in the generator, produces a 60-candle power light, according to thorough teats made at the electrical laboratory in New York. The gas produced is, as to quality and economical value, superior to any production yet offered to the public. The cost of a 16 candle power incan descent light is gc per hour, a 24 can dle power kerosene • light is 3-5c per hour, a 24 candle power Acetylene light is 2-5c per hour a 60 candle power Radio Ray light, this new in vention, more than twice the candle power than any of the former, is only 3-5c per hour. The brilliancy and steadiness of the light and its effect on the eye is both cheerful and without straiil to the eye. The generator, in which the gas is produced, requires but little space and can easily be installed in any house and attached to pipes, such as used for ordinary gas, for lighting, cooking and heating; can be used also for piano and reading lamps, which do not require pipes. It is not explosive and cannot be exploded, neither does it corrode the pipes through which the gas flows; it is free from smoke and soot. The Radio Ray Light Company, a New York corporation, ie establishing a plant on Atlantic Avenue, and will shortly, through its agents, introduce this new light and demonstrate its value to the public.—Observer.
