Trolleys for Atlantic Ave. The Brooklyn Rapid Transit Com pany and the Long Island tiailroad have come to an agreement, one that is satisfactory to the Puplic Service i Commission, regarding the surface tracks along Atlantic Avenue. The B. R. T. will take over these tracks from the Long Island on a cash considera tion and will apply to the Public Ser vice ComtTvssion for the necessary franchise under which to operate a line of trolley cars in conjunction with its other lines. This franchise will prob ably be granted. The board of directors of the B, R. T. and of the Long Island will meet shortly and each will formally ratify the tentative contract agreed upon through counsel. President Ralph Peters of the Long Island has left town for a week or ten days, and upon his return the contract will be consum mated. General George W. Wingate of coun sel for the Long Island said that the railroad had let the tracks go to the B. R. T. at a sa rilice after it had found it impossible to get a franchise to op erate a trolley road along Atlantic Avenue. General Wingate would not name the amount agree upon, but he said the B. R. T. was prepared to pay the actual value of the rails, ties and other material. General Wingate said j it cost the Long Island $150,000 orig inally to lay out this system.— Times Complete Long Island Tour No reader of the Nassau County Re view should let slip by the opportunity presented to secure a copy of “ Long Island Today” by paying subscription to J a n . 1 1913. The Value of Telephone Service Telephone service is now so univer sally regarded as a business necessity that the telephone books of the New York Telephone Company are approxi m a ting to the size of a city directory. The telephone is a commercial neces sity and doing business without it is a handicap which no one can appreciate until they adopt a telephone and then discover the difference by experience. Being able to talk with anybody a t any time is like having the man at the oth er end of the wire in your own office, and this annihilation of distances is the every day miracle which the tele phone accomplishes. The cost of hav ing it is nominal but the expense of doing without it can never be calcu lated. “ AFTER K I P L I N G . ” It is claimed that the brains of the masculine sex Are shrewder than those that are made to perplex Now my Pater can’t be beaten on a purchase or a sale But, when the Mater wants some money She’s all smiles and sweet as honey The female of the species is more foxy than the male Now the Pater is no beauty But tends strictly to his duty Still often gets a scolding should he take a glass of ale Of course Mater would not do it No; she keeps hers in the closet The female of the species is more foxy than the male When the old man comes home late With a sort of kind of skate And if to hide his money he should fail Be sure my dear old Mater Would go through him sometime later Ah; the female of the species is more Foxy than the male.
