Forest Fire Protection The following letter has been sent by Commissioner Whipple to every Super visor in the sixteen forest preserve counties: “The next forty-five days will be the most dangerous time of the year for tires. Every jierson going into the woods should be warned about starting or leaving fires. All newspapers can assist greatly by calling attention to the1 danger from forest fires, especially at this season. Will you not do every thing you can to warn people, get notic es in papers and prevent the starting of tires. A little special attention on the part of each Supervisor, Patrolman, and Game Protector will save the State, counties and towns much money and valuable forests.” Want Roads for Auto Race The Motor Cups Holding Company— the recently formed organization that will hold future contests for the Van derbilt cup and the Automobile Club of America’s Grand Prize gold cup— ^made formal application Monday to the Nassau County Board of Supervisors for permission to run the Vanderbilt cup race this year. The application asks for permission to use certain Nas sau County roads on Saturday, October 30, between the hours of 5 a. m. and 5 p. m. The supervisors were also asked to grant permission for use of the roads by drives of competing cars from daylight uytil 8 o’clock each morning from October 14 until the day of the race.
