N inety-eight oper ations were performed. The new Van derbilt annex and ward were opened July 14. Another visit on October 24 gave the number admitted for three months as two hundred and twenty-six. The number of deaths was eighteen. One hundred and twenty-one operations were perfotned, seventeen of them for bullet and shot wounds. A list of ar ticles needed was given. Among them were eight tables of a size to accom mod a te four, thirty-tw o chairs, a ser vice table (one large or two small) old easy chairs w ith washable covers for the use of convalescents, small beds and bedroom furniture, rugs and jvreeporf wheel chairs. The Town of Hempstead Home for the Poor was visited on October 26. T h e re' were twenty-nine inmates, four of them women. A visit was made to Jones Institute on October 16. The inm a tes were twenty-four men and ten women. Bet ter ventilation would improve the rooms. The house is ill adapted to its use, the women being obliged to climb steep dark, stairw ays. The w a ter supply has been insuffici ent as it depended upon a small tank and a windmill. A new heating plant and engine has recently been installed and it is hoped the w a ter will now be abundantly supplied. There was some discussion as to the best methods of c arrying on the work, of possible improvements in some of the institutions, the need of increased membership, and other m a tters of in terest to the members of the commit tee. A recess for the annual meeting was taken, after which the Committee ad journed to meet at the usual time and place. During the year no resignations have been received and no new mem bers added to the coqamittee. The present membership is twenty-nine.
