Y'et even wheif The Manners tilled the air with weird songs, there came to Teddy Wilkins the vision of a face framed in dark hair and the Bound of a voice which was musical and low. Days of hard lighting followed, and when it was all over Sergeant Theo dore Wilkins went in search of her who had called him a Sir Galahad. Me was so youthful that he had had hard work in getting into the regiment when he enlisted about a year before. He had been edueated in a military school, and the mechauirm ul drill seemed a second nature lo him. He'remembered as he escorted tho refugees through the chaparral that there was a situation in grand opera which was not so very different from the one in which he found himself. The new theory was offered by Mv. Cecil J. Dolmage that tho apparent enlargement of the moon is an effect of the sky’s curvature, which is not noticed at the zenith but apparently increases toward the horizon. This recalled the many other suggestions of recent years. A Belgian astron omer has sought to prove that the cause is physiological, and that ob jects overhead always seem smaller titan those at the same distance on a level; another idea is that the cause is atmospheric; still another that the illusion is mental. About the only thing really proven is that measure ment with the sextant shows the moon's disc to have the same size at the horizon as at the zenith, except for the slight influence of refraction Dyed III* Horse.
