S unday school j, scholars over 12 report for the past year. The re port shows thut the village has five fire companies, w ith a total member ship of 117, distributed as follows: Excelsior IIool: and Ladder, 28; Wide, Awake Engine, 21; Ever Ready, 23; Vigilant, 22; Buy View, 23. Each com p any is fully equipped and housed except Bay View Hose who have uo storage for apparatus aud no m eeting room. There are 1,300 feet of good hose, and lOOin poor condition, making a total of 1400 feet. The report gives a brief ac count of all village tires during the year, besides touching uihiii last spring's tournam ent and other hapi peuiugs. Mr. Cheshire recommend ed that the departm ent be provided with three shut-off nozzles, uud th a t a house be b u ilt for Bay View Hose. Also that a hydrant be placed on Fulton street opposite Odd Fellows’ hall, and that the companies be sup plied with extra hose. The report was received, filed and the sugges tions noted. Mr. Hiram It. Smith, the present chief, handed ill a w ritten report which contained m any valuable sug gestions aud recommendations, the first beiug that each hose company be equipped w ith two rubber coats, two pairs of gloves for pipe-meu, and a shovel to remove snow and other obstructions from hydrants. Chief Smith was given authority to purchase same. Secondly, th a t an extra flooring be laid iu the houses of Ever Ready aud V igilant Hose companies, the present lower floors being very open and cold, and there would doubtless be a saving in fuel. Pres. Miller was appointed a com mittee with j>ower to have the same j placed. Thirdly, that au extra hydrant was needed on Fulton street between Main and Raynor streets. Mr. S. Foster Sprague was made a com mittee to investigate same. The fourth recommendation is perhaps the most im p o rtant in the report. It is to th e effect that tlie recent practical tests of our lire alarm system d em o n strate that there is need of improvement. Mr. Smith recommends, first that meas ures be adopted at once looking to ward an investigation of tire alarm systems as to their cost and adapta bility to our village, for the purpose of presenting to the citizens at their next annual village election proper resolutions for their eonsideration; | und second, that in the interim the Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Bennett in honor of tlie tw enty-first birthday of Mr. Theodore Zcner, of Brooklyn, who has been visiting in this village. Numerous Chinese lanterns were strung from the trees and piazza and made a very pretty effect. Music was furnished b y Mr. Thomas A. S m ith's orchestra a nd d ancing was SEAFORD.
