BOX FOR SOLDIERS BENEFIT ® AT MITCHEL FIELD EVERY WEEK, WEBBER IN CHARGE Mitchal Field, June 15.-Thirty-two rounds of good boxing are on the card for the show at Mitchel Field Wednes- day evening for the benefit of the Fox Hills Hospital for wounded soldiera and the Educational and Recreational Fund of the Army, The entertainment will be rum entirely under the nuspices of the Mitchel Field Athletic Association, which made bouts popular last year. The old popular prices of $1.50 and $1 will prevail. The headliner scheduled is a ten- round go betwéen Billy Bush, who fought Frank Carpenter at this field last summer, and Joe Lewis of the Bronx, who has given a good account of himself in that region. Another ten-rounder will be between Jack Redman, Greenwich Village, who won his fight at this feld recently and Jimmy Coffey, Mohawk Indian. There will be the .fsyal six-round prelimi- pafies between snappy youngsters. The bouts are under the direction of Sergeant Steve Webber, who is mak Ing the matches. The addresses of the evening were all very interesting and delivered by master orators. A flag was presented by the veterans of former wars, headed by William H. Patterson, \Uncle Billy,\ the dean of all soldiers in the village, Fire Apparatus Was -Town Board Holds Hempstead, June 15.-The Tow Board yesterday from eight taxpayers of New Hyde Parl Fire District, protesting the, electioi held in that district recently, at whic $4,500 was voted for purchase of fire ay paratus. ® The. petitioners claimed that the elec tion was irregular in that it had nc been properly udvertised and that pe sonx voted who were not qualified. No mction was taken by the Board, the opinion of members being that the only recourse of those who claimed to be aggrieved was to go to court. The proposition to expend the mone was carried by 37 to 35. to put on fighters who are well match ed and can give the patrons something for their money.
