In fact the boys have entered a class by themselves, and so far as has been disclosed, there is not a high school team in these parts that can even put up an interesting game against them, 'They have played the, best of them in this county and in Queens, and in every they have come out victorious, their last notable » on case victory being a shutout for the Ja maica High School, with the score 1: to 0 These results have been brought about primarily by head work. They have put brains into baseball, as well as inte their book studies. 'They have heer taught to use their heads in athletics by competent coaching. 'This is not taking any glory from the players, wh undoubtedly. have the stuff in them Coaching has simply brought it out t« a greater extent in a shorter time thas it would otherwise have developed. The fine record of the season's work according to J. H. Fay, physical director of the school, who has conched the boys is due to two. results which have been striven for continually. The first: o{ these, and perhaps the most necessary one, was to make the boys play togeth- er harmoniously, no matter what angl of discouragement the game developed Lox awhat special-type of error some play er committed. 'When this goal was fin ally attained a decided change was not iceable in the team, says Mr. Fay. Then the boys liad to be trught tc obey orders and abide by the results whether good or bad. \To play the hit and run, to stea bases, to work for passes and to squeer a man are hard things for boys to mas ter,\ said Mr. Fay. ''They mastered: it however, and consequently are at the top of the list.\ 1 Discussing the strong points of the variqus members of the team, Mr, Fay said: j \Contant the captain, is a versatile player, capable of playing in any posi tion and maintaining the standard that & captain should. So decided Justice Wal Jones, 'sitting as @ coroner here Coroner Jones supplements this with the statement that he finds no culpable negligence. Miss Bromwell, 23 year old aviatrix, John Dunbar was concerned was killed when a JN 4 Canadian plane in which she was making an exhibition dashed to the ground. The most important witness called by o the cell of the striker who sniffed. | Judge Jones yesterday was Lioyd Ber- teaud, test pilot for the Aero Import Corporation, whos hangars are at Haz elhurst Field, Mr. Berteaud talked with Miss Bromwell when she reached the feld ~Bunday in company: with Capt. In that section of the village bounded on the south by Casino avenue; on. the north by-Atlaptic-avente, on the east by Roosevelt avenue, and on the. west by South Bay avenue, live in men is a drain ditch that (is being cleaned. In that ditch have been found cans, shoes, and all sorts of filth, supposedly put there by the people living in the section named. Heavy weeds, grass, mud and filth have been cleaned out. In some es the watge. could not run The cleaning process has brought to light the fact that the last few years people in that section have made drains to carry the overflow from cess- pools into the ditch, for so. that they would not have to clean out the cesspools The end of the drain ditch is on the beach at Casino Hotel. There in the summer, women and children bath every day, running the risk of getting mouthsful of water filled with the over- flow of cesspools. Casing. People living along the section mentioned will be served with summons Should more drase mnd said to be subject to fines. they again defile the ditches, tie measures will be taken. One cease of typhoid in a house along thessection named could casily start an epidemic that could wipe out a good portion of the town. The condition is more than merely dangerous, and the laxity of the people Along the way will be severely dealt with, as they must know that their practice is one that is strictly against the law. The drain ditches were built to carry off rain water, and should contain noth- Ing but clear water. At two places along the stream, 'property owners have made homes for ducks, and the ducks are growing fat on what they find to eat floating in the water. Village President Christie ally superintending the work of getting rid of this menace, and both he and Dr. Runcie are going to see to it that nothing 'like the present conditions .will ever prevail again in the village.
