Just 40 years ago February 19th, in 1897, the Long Island chapter was formed in and Queens counties, with 18 councils and ap- proximately 5,000 members. Cath- olic parishes were established in Nassau and Suffolk counties, members of the Knights of Col- umbus organized new councils from among those who had moved farther east on the island. The number of councils continually has increased until it has now reached 68, with approximately 30,000 members. Councils have contributed much to the growth of the Catholic church and to the expansion of | the order from Brooklyn to Mon- tauk Point. The committee in charge of arrangements will broadcast descriptions of many of the epochal events in the Catholic history of Long Island during these 40 years. Supreme Director Daniel A.
