When cold enter of the cake from the bot- cake with chocolate icing with sweetened whipped A very dear friend of mine presented me with a well timed opportunity to visit Newport and the America Cup Races. I'm not familiar with yacht racing and it took Jack, Betty's friend, almost an hour. to explain to me what it was all about. To be truthful with you I have never set foot aboard a sailing vessel in my life and you can just imagine how bewild- ered I was ihen he started talking about Halyards, Jibs, Port-quartor aud Abcam, Jack gave it up finally as a bad job, telling us that we would find more interest in the style show ancy. Newport gare me a thall with its gala parade of clubmen, yachtsmen, society women and the thousands of other people who were in Newport through sheer curiosity. Jack said that hardly one of them knew the difference between port and starboard. He looked right at us when he said it, but he finally had to take some of it back when an elderly spectator asked him what a Genoa Jib was. After several at- tempts to explain, a better informed member of the party viewing the races leaned over and quickly cleared up the stumble block, much to Jack's consternation. It was our turn to laugh, but he took it good naturedly. Jack's a pretty good sport. We saw the races, but with the cold, the fog and dampness, we found more pleasure ashore than wallowing around miles from terra firma. Those yachts meant no more to us than a couple of blankets tied to telephone poles. They looked to be miles away and barely mov- ing. As soon as we were ashore again rushed to their rooms to get warm, but heat was sometimes at a premium. How I longed for the warmth of my own little home down on Long laland. Two or three shovels of Con- sumer'a Coal would bring a pleasant feeling to my chilled body. . As a parting remark I might suggest that Father Time is truniling alrmggbfingglg winter along with him. 1f your eval supply is yaw, bet- ter bring it up to normal by calling up Consumer's Coal at the first opportunity.
