Ra- fael del Castillo of Bayport , lias been awarded the honor of being valedictorian of the class of 1941 at Seton Hall , Patch ogue ' s Catholic High school , it was announced last week by the mother superior of the school. Vincent Trypuc , son of Mr. and Mrs . Philip Try- pilc of 45 Lee avenue , Patch- ogue , will be the salutatorian. The mother superior also said that the Most Rev. TJiomas E. Molloy, S.T.D., bishop of Brooklyn diocese , ¦which includes the counties of Kings , Queens , Nassau and Suffolk , will pre- side at the graduation exercises in the ballroom of the Patehogue hotel on Tuesday, June 24. Since Seton Hall -was started with Freshman and Sophomore classes in the fall of 1937 , this will be the first class to be graduated after all four years ' work at the school. J., to attend tlie wedding of his cousi *. Sunday morning there was a spe- cial - speaker at the Congregational church.. The Rev. Karl Hanle , with his wife and a group of six young people , including a talented 13-year- old p iano player , gave the program. Monday evening Bible school was held at th* home of Mr. and Mrs. James Matterly of Gibbs Pond road. Wed- nesday evening prayer meeting was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pullen of Lake Grove. On Sunday, June 22 , the Rev. Mr. Steele , a young radio speaker from the South , will speak at the church. The services will be from 7 to 8 p. m. in- stead of starting at 7:30. After speak- ing here , Mr. Steele will give another aefdress in Kings Park the same eve- ning. On Sunday, June 29 , the speak- er will be James E. Bennet , corpora- tion lawyer of New York. The ad- dress wiil be at 3 o ' clock and follow- ing this there will be a Fellowship supper at the parish hall , to which everyone will be invited. After the supper , Mr. Bennet will go to the Commack Methodist church. Mrs. Charles Furman ' s sister , Mrs. Hervey Raymond , and her daughter and son and daughter-in-law , all of Brooklyn , visited her on Saturday. Last \ Saturday morning the C. O. D. S. went to Radio City in New York. In the afternoon they attended the Center theater and saw \It Happened on Ice. \ Then they had dinner before returning home. Herman Schram and children of the Bronx spent the holiday week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brandt of William street . Mrs. Brandt' s brother , Carl Meyer of Queens , visited there also. Mrs. Robert Fitzgerald and chil- dren, of Brooklyn spent the week-end at tlieir home on Magnolia street. Mrs. John Lehman and children were at their bungalow on Court street. M rs. John Patz and two . sons of Newark , N. J., spent the week-end at tlieir home on Pleasant avenue. Mr. . and Mrs. George Martin and family spent the week-end at their bungalow on Charles street. Mr. and Mrs. James Vitsas of Jackson Heights were also at their home on Charles street. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin McCarrick and family of Cypress Hills came out for the week-end , but little Teddy was taken ill and they had to go right back to the city. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Walters have rented the Abel bungalow 011 South Washington avemue for an indefinite peri od. D T . Jacob Sclnvartz and a party of frieaids from New York spent the weel-end at the home of Miss Eliz- abeth Warshaw on Pleasant avenue. Other Pleasant avenue visitors were Mrs. Emery Bolgar at her parents ' home and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cuccin - nielo and two children with a group of friends at their bungalow. Mr. and Mrs. James Jordan ancl daughter Josephine of South Ozone Pari visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Moger , Saturday evening. Mrs. Mary Griffin of Queens was at her bungalow on South Washington avenue during the week-end. Pvt. Kenneth Urban of Wood road and Pvt. George Emery of Middle Country road spent the week-end at their respective \homes. They are sta- tioned at Fort Devons , Mass., aiid will leave the first part of the month for an indefinite stay in Caribbean wa- ters. Mrs. Louis Stohr , \ who has just re- covered \ from an appendicitis opera- tion , has just returned to her home on Middle Country road from the Southside hospital , Bay Shore. Mrs. John Guelfi and children of Ulrich road spent Memorial day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Pierce in Bohemia. Mr. and Mrs. J. Softness of Brook- lyn spent the week-end at their home on South Washington avenue. Mrs. Mai-y Shaloo and - family of Brooklyn spent the week-end at her home on Williams street. The Centereach Racing Homer club had ^ a party at Robin ' s Community club on Emery lane Saturday ni ght. Many out-of-town people attended. Martin. Maningo , who--wa s injured while playing in the schoolyard , has had.th e stiches removed from his knee and is improving. Miss Antoinette Lopa of Brooklyn spent the week-end with her sister , Mrs. Martin Maningo of Blydenbergh road. Allen Overton celebrated his fifth birthday Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Duffield , with lier two sons and her \ mother , Mrs . M. Pabst of Spring Valley, visited at the Overton home that day. The C. 0. D. S. will meet at the home of Mi's. H. Dairow in Bayport , Friday. Next\ Tuesday night the Parent- Teacher association will have its final meeting for this year at the school . There will be election of officers. The Republican club will meet at the firehall Wednesday night. Elec- tion of officers will take place. The Knit Wits will meet at the home of Mrs. Massey on Hammond road Wednesday afternoon. Miss Jennie Manitta of Middle Country road was hostess to the Nick- Name 4-H club Monday evening. Miss Bora Becker of Lake Grove , who is training in St. Mary ' s hospital , Brooklyn , is home on a two-week va- cation. Wednesday evening the Bridge club will meet at the home of Mrs. Rich- ard Hague in Patchogue. Miss Helen Gold of Eidgewood spent the. holiday week-end at the home of Miss Anai a Kaltwasser on Smith lane. Frank Quattlander , who is stationed at Port Eustis , Va., spent Sunday vis- iting his • parents , Mr. and Mrs. A. Quattlander of North Washington avenue. Chris Galenes of Charles street en- tertained his son George and daugh - ter-in-law and a party of friends over the holiday. On Friday, May 23 , the 4-H Nick- Name club presented a three-act com- edy \Three Bright Girls , \ at the Cen- tereach firehall. The play was directed by Chxistine Shields , who has had previous professional experience. The performance , which was a financial success , was met with warm enthus- iasm by the large audience. The aud- ience received an unexpected thrill , when , in a scene in the second act , a pistol report rang out , followed by the piercing scream of one of the characters after which ensued com- plete silence and darkness. The char- acters were all portrayed by members of the club , which included Melba Campbell , Marjorie Groben and Jen- nie Manitta as the three bright girls; Shirley Benson as the town club wo- man and gossip, Mrs. Snodgrasse; Christine Shields as Nellie , the untidy maid who furnished the surprise end- ing when she was discovered to be the villainess of the plot; Gertrude Pierce , the old maid stooge of Mrs . Snodgrasse; Dorothy Ulrich ancl Char- lotte Ripple , two city detectives. Miss Shields , director , and Mi ss Ulrich, leader of the 4-H - . club , each received a floral bouquet from the members at the en<l of the performance. Ralph Wendel of Wood road was operated on in Southside hospital Saturday and has since returned home. Mrs. * Agnes Moger will be hostess to the Needlework club Thursday evening at her home on Holly street. Sunday a group of Legionnaires from Colyer post 28 in Jamaica spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Callan on Callan ' s lane. Their baseball team , p laying the Centereach boys , defeated the home team. Mr . and Mrs. William Bush and daughter Andrea of Freeport spent Saturday at the homo of Mrs. Burr on Main avonue. Mrs. Lawrence Lund- gfien and children of St. James spent the week-end witli her \ sister , Mrs. Burr. - Franpis B. Becker , son. of -Mrs. Emil Becker of; Walnut Grove place, Lake . Grove , has been ' transferred to Emeryville , Cal., to take, charge of a new branch of the General Cable cor- poration . The now plant is for the soe purpose - of manufacturing navy cable , with which Mr. Becker has been experimenting for the past year. Mr. Becker is a graduate of Patch- ogue High school and Rensselaer Poly, teehnio institute.
