Greenhalgh of Bay Shore of larceny, for fraudu- lent road oil deals involving Islip town funds , was unani- mously upheld Monday by the Appellate division. Following his conviction by a jury before Suffolk County Judge L. Bar- ron Hill at Riverhead eight months ago r Greenhal gh was sentenced to a term of from three to five years in Sing Sing -and was fired $4 , 180.36. The fine was computed as one-half the amount proved fraud , Judg-e Hill sai d in imposing the sentence. Since then , Greenhalgh has been free in $10 , 000 bail , pending appeal . ' The Appellate division ' s 32-word decision , 'handed down by Justices Lazansky, ' Hagai-ty, Carswell , Taylor and Close , read as follows : \People , etc., res., v. Greenhalgh , ap. Judgment of the County Court of Suffolk County convicting defen- dant of the crime of violating section 1864 of the Penal Law unanimously affirmed , pursuant to section 542 , Code of Criminal Procedure. \ Greenhalgh will seek permission to carry his case to the Court of A p- peals in Albany, his attorney an- nounced at Riverhead yesterday. Mrs. Gertrude Adams Watkins , owner of the Bituminous Materi al and Supply company of Riverhead , who pleaded guilty to one of three indict- ments in the oil scandal a week be- fore the Greenhalgh trial , then turned state ' s evidence against Greenhalgh , was sentenced to from one and a half to three years and fined $4 , 180. HL G. Penny Replaced By County Treasurer Terry, on His Staff Riverhead Man WaB Dropped During Kirk' s Regime — Reutershan of East Hampton Continues as Deputy Harry G. Penny of Riverhead , who was dropped from the Suffolk county treasurer ' s staff last ¦ spring, when Joseph A. Kirk , Democrat , was ap- pointed to the county treasurer ship is hack .again in his old - position , which he fought to regain through the courts. Shortly after Mr. Kirk took office , succeeding the late John G. Peck , Republican , he dropped Mr. Penny, a veteran member of the staff , and appointed Frank J. McLaughlin, Southampton Democrat , in his p lace. Mr. Penny then instituted a legal action in . an - effort . to be restored to the position. The action failed. When Ellis T. Terry, Riverhead . Re- publican , who was elected' county treasurer in November , took over his duties last week , he immediately re- placed Mr. McLaughiin with Mr. Penny. Mr. Terry, who served as -county treasurer for two terms be- fore Mr. Peck ' s regime , said- that no other • change in the office is contem- plated. Paul V. Reutershan of East Hampton continues as deputy county treasurer. Medford Taxpayers Re-elect Officers Unanimously. 1941 The Med ford Taxpayers ' associa- tion on Monday evening held its an- nual meeting and election of officers for 1941. All officers were unani- mou sly re-elected as follows : Harry Truman , president; Edward Pirner , vice-president; Mrs. E. A. Theis , sec- retary ; Mrs. Jacob Web er , treasurer; Steve Nemec , sergcant-at-arms. The executive committee includes Harry Truman , Edward Pirner , Nich- olas Mascm , Herman M' asem and Otto Jacobi. The entertainment committee is composed of Mrs. E. Theis , Mrs. J. Weber , Mrs. E. Pirner , Mrs. T. Hudak , Mrs, H. Wolde , Mrs. S. Beck , Mrs. P. Gillman , Mrs. G. Schaecher , Mrs. H. D. White & Co. of New York , which jointly bid an interest rate of 1.2 per cent with a premium of $153.54. The 1.2 rate is one of the low- est ever quoted on a town hond issue. The successfu l bid was the lowest interest rate contained in eight quota- tions receive d by the board. These ranged up to a flat two per cent rate with a premium of $92.50 , which was bid by the Manufacturers and Trad- ers Trust company of Buffalo. The proceeds of the bond issue will be used to redeem certificates of in- debtedness on which money was bor-- rdwed during the past year to finance town-sponsored W. P. A. projects.
