Carl Seits of' Jackson Heights. ;; Auto Hits Walkers i' Driver Gets Jail Term Drove Without License Frank Bieler of 55 Scimitar street , Elmont , was arrested at Port Jef- ferson Sunday after the car he was driving allegedly struck two pedes- trians in Rocky Point. Bieler rush- ed the two , Marion Friedman , aged 24 , and Helen Schorkctt , aged 32 , both of Rocky Point , to Mather. Me- morial hospital , Port Jefferson , where they were attended for cuts and bruises. Brookhaven Town Officer Francis Hawkins placed Bieler under arrest on a charge of driving without a li- cense. Arraigned before Justice of the Peace Carl Ruhland of East Se- tauket , Bieler pleaded not guilty and was ordered held in $250 hail , pending a hearing yesterday morn - ing. Unable to obtain hail , Bieler \' spent the night in the Town hall lockup. Meanwhile , according to police, it was learned that Bieler had served a jail term in Nassau county on a similar charge. After pleading guil- ty before Judge Ruhland in the Town hall yesterday, Bieler was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail. SUPERVISORS SET NOV. 25 COUNTY TAXATION DATE The Suffolk supervisors on Mon- day fixed November 25 as the date for levying county taxes for next year. The budget will be considered several weeks prior to this time. A report of the county treasurer ' s of- fice shows that a cash balance of $1 , 543 , 030 was on hand in all de- partments at the end of the business year on July 27. Public Invited To County Picni c Republican Party Everything that goes to make up an outing, and many other v attraction s besides , appears to be the keynote of the annual outing and picnic of the Suffolk 'County Republican club , to be held Saturday afternoon and. eve- ning on the club' s spacious grounds at Timber Point , weather permitting. The event , which is expected to be bigger \ and better than those of past years , is being planned by a large committee headed by Supervisor Ed- gar A. Sharp of Patchogue , assisted by Max W. Hollander of Huntington. County Clerk Frank Markvart of Islip is ih charge of the year book. Everybody is welcome and admis- sion is . free , the committee says , in recommending that it be more or less a family outing and that- those at- tending bring their own luncheon bas- kets , if they prefer. The program includes foot races and many other forms of competition for both adults and children . There will also be water sports. One of the foot races will be restricted to county officials and candidates for office in the fall elections. Josep h Psota of Smithtown and his concert band will play in the after- noon and evening, and there will be separate bands foi* dancing in the afternoon and evening. . There will also be a community sing, led by Henry F. Heine of Holbrook , accom- panied by Psota ' s orchestra. Kingsland Macy. One of the main features of the day will be at 5 p. m., when there will be an amplified broadcast of Wendell L. Willkie ' s speech of acceptance of the Republican nomination for Pres- ident , which will be received by radio from Elwood , Ind. The committee says this will be held on the lawn and that there will be seats for every- __ body. Shortly after dark , outdoor movies will be shown on the clubhouse lawn.
