The Peace Haven buildings and property, consisting of about 40 acres , have a total assessed Valuation of $112 , 000. The latest move , made in the form of a petition , submitted to Islip Town Assessor Frank H. . Geiger , will be considered at a public hearing today in the Islip Town hall , Islip. It will be opposed by the Idlehour Taxpayers ' association of Oakdale , which has retained John M. Green e , Sayville attorney, as c ounsel. In the petition , which follows the lines of that submitted last year , the metaphysicians ' group contends that Peace Haven is used exclusively for relig ious and educational purposes and that its members use it as a re- treat house for their \ moral and mental improvement for religious , Bible , charitable , benevolent , educa- tional , scientific and literary pur- poses. \ Mr. Geiger denied the 1939 appli- cation , stating that Peace Haven - is not a charitable or benevolent cor- poration , that it is not an educational institution because it has not com- pli ed with the Education law and was not chartered by the University of the State of New York nor certified by the regents, Mr. Geiger ruled it is not a relig- iou s organization because it was not incorp orated under the religious cor- poration law of the state and that the religious services held there are not of any recognised denomination or sect. The primary purpose of Poace Hav- en , Mr. Geiger stated , is that of a \ club or fraternity where members having the same ideas may- bond to- gether to promote their mutual in- terests. \ In strongly opposing the 1939 ap- plicati on , the taxpayers ' group said that the Bohemia-Oakdale school dis- trict would stand to lose a large ' part of the $4 , 000 in annual taxes involved in the appeal . i Mr. Geiger ' s decision of last Sep- tember followed two public hearings . on the application and \ a conference he hold with representatives pf the 4 State Tax commission, —— — ' ... .1 ...I. . . . . . > ' In testing the strength of stock- ings , miles of wear on toes and heels can be duplicated in a few boura by frictloh machines.
