Arriving . Tcuday ; ^ At Camp Upton 1 , 000 Guardsmen to Spend Ten Days at Gamp War Department . Indicates Camp Up- ton ' s Use Would Increase Onl y in the Event of an Emergency Utilizing 100; Army trucks and 20 station wagons , 800 members of the Tgnth Infantry . of Albany will move from . Camp Smith in Peekskill . 'to Camp Upton in Yaphank t o day for a ten-day training period. It is planned to make the 110-mile trip in six hours. The Guardsmen were preceded Mon- day by the staff and field officers and the regimental headquarters company, totalling nearly. 200 men , who broke camp at Peekskill and departed for Camp Upton to arrange , for the arrival of the main body of troops. The Guardsmen have spent the past ten days at Camp Smith , being trained in target practice and var- ious types of tactical maneuvers and demonstration of comb at problems. A similar program is ' planned at Yaphank, On Sunday, the compan- ies comprising the regiment held sports events at Camp Smith before a gathering of about 1 , 000 guests. The Tenth Infantry is engaged in a 21-day training period , ' ,.on com- pletion of which the men will re- turn to their homes in Albany and vicinity. The possibility of more extensive use of Camp Upton for training pur- poses depends largely on wh ether an emergency might arise requ i ring the embarkation of troops in large num- bers-from New York , according to a letter written to Congressman Leon- ard W. Hall by Harry H. Woodring, shortly before the latter resigned a week ago as Secretary of War. In his l etter , Mr. Woodring said , \Camp Upton , which is at present under the jurisdiction of the War department , is a sub post of Fort Totten , New York. At present two batteries of Coast artillery are locat- ed there , pending transfer elsewhere , and another battery will soon arrive. \As there are no plans for any ex- tensive use of Camp Upton in the - early future , it will probably con- tinue to be used to a limited extent for training purposes. In the event of an emergency which might re- quire the embarkation of troops in large numbers from the Port of New York , Camp Upton would probably be used more , extensively. However , no such use is in prospect at this time. \ Together Vivien Leigh and La urence Olivier shown in a scene from \21 Days To- gether , \ playing at the Granada the- atre today through.: Friday.
