Nearly 2 , 000 M en W i ll Come from Up-state Plans Call for Fiel d Work for Various Units During the Summer Season Camp Upton , which has been in use for the past several weeks by three units of the Sixty-second Coast artillery, composed of about 200 mem , will he the center of largely increased activity, beginning- June 26 , when nearly 2 , 000 members of the National Guard will encamp there for a ten- day training period. The National Guardsmen who will go to the Yaphank camp are those of the Tenth infantry irom Albany and several other upstate cities. This regiment, commanded by Col. Willard Donner , is now spending ten days in Camp Smith , Peekskill. The regi- ment will be moved to Yaphank by motor caravan. It , was announced over the week- end that throughout the coming sum- mer several thousand State troops will receive training in Yaphank , and Capt. John F. Ward of ihe state staff will spend much time there with dif- ferent units. After National Guardsmen complete ten-day tours in Camp Upton , they will return to their home armories and return to civil life and their ordinary weekly drills. Major Gen. William N. Haskell , commanding general of the Guard ; Col, Josep h A. S. Mundy of Brooklyn , chief of staff of the Twenty-sev enth division , and other division staff offic- ers will pay inspection visits to Camp Upton in the course of the season. 3 Soldiers Charged With Stealing Auto Held After Wreck Did Not Get Far in Yaphank Ad- venture—One Suffers Broken Jaw —Taken for Military Trial Three enlisted men of the United- States army, stationed at Camp U p- ton , who were arrested Wednesday night by Deputy Sheriff John E- Davis of Yaphank on charges of grand larceny after they had alleg- edly stolen and wrecked a car , re- sulting in painful injuries to one of them , will face a military trial. Two of the men were turned over to their superior officers Thursday by Justice of the Peace Donald W- Shaw after being; locked up since tlie previous nigh t , while the third was transferred earlier in the day to the army hospital at Port Totten. Mooney, chairman , Bert Court and Philip L. Hans. It continues: . \Several week s ago , the present board urged the defeat of the five-man-board /plan . In view of the misleading character of the latest statement issued by the five- man-board advocates , the present board more vigorously than ever rec- ommends the d efeat of this proposed board expansion . \In passing, the present board wishes to point out that the five- man-board group, which appears to he grop ing- for reasons for the in- crease in board p ersonnel , has yet failed to show that the present board has not always acted with the best welfare of the children foremost in mind , which , incidentally, the pres- ent board feel s is its primary duty to the district. \A month ago, the five-man-board advocates , iii a letter to the news- papers , endeavore d to assure the district taxpayers that there was no truth to the import that , in the event the five -man hoard plan was approv- ed , two principals . would be hired for the Lake Ronkonkoma school ior the coming year. \I. n expressing this assurance , these frve-inan-board advocates went BO far as to say that a board could not ar- bitraril y increase the nudget once it is approved by the district. Children of St. Joseph' s parish will meet at; various points , where a bus will pick them up and transport them to and from the Cenacle. Children of Ronkonkoma wil l wait for the bus at 2 p. m, at the following places: Five Corners , -Agnew and Taylor ' s store und at St. Joseph' s church. The bus will then proceed to Centereach and make stops at Holbrook road , beginning , at Middle Country road , at the Centereach postoffice , and at tho red light; at Hawkins avenue , Cen- tereach. . The children will meet the bus at the point nearest their homes. Classes will begin at 2 :30 and end with benediction in the convent chapel about 4:30 every Monday until clos- inu: day, August 26. Morris , res- idents of Ronkonkoma, for the past 19 years , celebrated their fiftieth wed- ding anniversary at their home , oh Pine stree4 on Sunday. ; A dinner , including: a large wed- ding cake , was served at noon- to 25 guests which included many of the members oi tho ^immediate family. The table was decorated with beau- tiful flowers among whicn was a basket of 50 yellow roses. Mr. and Mrs. Morris received many attractive practical gifts.
