Varied Screen Bill At Sayville Theatre \It All Came True , \ the screen version of Louis Bromfield' s novel- will b-e shown fov the last times today and tomorrow at tlie Sayville theatre- starring Ann Sheridan and Jeffrey- Lynn , also Zazu Pitts and Humphrey Bogart. • A double feature program is sched- uled foi* Friday and Saturday, the films being \Geronimo \ and \Young as You Feel. \ \Geronimo \ brings to the screen the story of the vengeance- driven savage who terrorized the great Southwest during: the second administrati on of President Grant. Ellen Drew , William Henry, Gene Lockhart , Ral ph Morgan and Chief Thunder Cloud , a full blooded Cher- okee Indian who plays the title role , are also in the cast. \Young As You Feel\ is the latest in the Jones- Fam- ily series. Kenneth Roberts ' historical story, \Northwest Passage , \ will be shown in technicolor Sunday through Tues- day. Spencer Tracy, Robert Youn-g and \Walter Brennan are in the cast. \Of Mice and Men \ a. John Stein- beck novel , will be shown next Wed- nesday and Thursday, featuring Bur- gess Meredith and Betty Field. Films Yen Can See At Port Jefferson Playing- for the last time today at the Port Jefferson theatre is the dramatic film , \\Castle on the Hudson , \ featuring Joh -n Garfield , Ann Sheri- dan and Pat O'Brien. The co-feature is \The Farmer ' s Daughter , \ with Martha Raye and Charlie Ruggles. Friday and Saturday a lusty tale of adventure in the Civil war days will be told in \The Arizona Kid , \ with Roy Rogers , \Gabby \ Hayes , Dorothy Sebastian and Sally March , a newcomer to the' screen. On the same bill will be the colorful fan- tasy, \The BUie Bird , \ starring Shir- ley Temple, Spring Byington , Nigel Bruce , Gale Sondergaard and Sybil Jason. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday ' s bill , \Road to Singapore , \ boasts a cast which includes Bing Crosby, Doro- thy Lamour , Bob Hope , Judith Bar- rett and - Jerry Colonna. ' Mainly, the story is of the fri end- shi p between two homeless men , Lennie , huge , hulking and not to bright , and George small , alert and the protector of his large companion. Powell and Asfaire In \Broadway Melod y \ Beginning a tliree-day engagement at the Patchogue theatre on Thurs- day, \Broadway -Melody of 1940\ teams Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell in their first co-starring roles. George Murphy is in the dancing cast. Comedy is supplied by, Frank Mor- gan. Florence Rice , Lysine Carver and Ian Hunter also have entertaining roles. Sprightl y Comedy Hit At Granada Theatre Too many husbands ean prove somewhat troublesome and Jean Ar- thur discovers that fact in that new •comedy of the same name , to be shown at tlie Granada theatre from Saturday to Tuesday. Jean is mar- ried to Fred MacMurray, who is reported dead at sea. She then marries Melvyn Douglas , Fred' s best friend. Fred' s return home , after a year spent on a desert island , is the first of a series of hectic and hila r- ious incidents. The companion feature on the bill is a story of action and suspense with Jack H olt in \Outside the Three- Mile Limit. \ Holt plays an under- cover man posing as a houncer on a gambling boat to run down a gang of counterfeiters. Mealey, commissioner o 'f motor vehicles , has announced tlie list of revoked and suspended driv - ing licenses and certificates of au- tomobile registration filed within tlie two weeks ended March 30. Police Vaudeville And Dance a Success The ninth annual vaudeville en- tertainment and dance of the Suffolk County Police association , held Sat- urday night at Canoe Place inn , Hampton Bays , drew s a capacity crowd and many persons were turned away. Th. event was described by the cosumittee as a financial and so- cial success. The vaxideville show- comprised ten acts of Broadway tal- ent. 6 Court Officers . Lose Their Jobs Justice Swezey Speaks and Sheriff Dreyer Acts Called Economy Move But Others Fear Republican to Democrati c Partisan Turnover Is in Progress Said to be based on an economy proposal recommended by Supreme Court Justice Isaac R. Swezey, resi- dent jurist , six Eepublieah appointees who have served for many years as court officers in the Sujreme court in Riverhead have been dropped from the payroll. Those dropped from service by Sheriff Jacob S. Dreyer at the re- quest of Justice Swezey are Joseph Holland , Edward Case , both of Pat- chogue , Joseph Kelly, Amityville , Bruno Zaupt , Jamesport , Henry Jones , Setauket , and Wilbur Carter , Greenport. The four court officers retained are David Gilbride , East Hampton , Harold Hoek , Sayville , Frank Jose , Water Mill , and Mrs. Elizabeth Kropp of Speonk , matron , bnt it is ' reported that Justice Swezey soon will re- place these fou r with provisional ap- pointees pending a civil service ex- amination for court attendants. These also being Republicans , they are said to fear they will be replaced by Dem- ocrats. Judge Swezey is a Demo- crat. The wholesale Rung is said to have followed a conference between Jus- tice . Swezey and Sheriff Drey er , a Republican , during wliich the former pointed out that tliere had been criticism by taxpayers as. to the number of officers assigned to the court. The men in the Supreme and Coun- ty courts , as court officers , are depu- ty sheriffs and do not have the title of court attendants. Under the pres- ent set-up, the sheriff is responsible for employing and discharging these officers on recommendation of the res- ident justice.
