Rsiiir Stops O utbreaks; Ranger Dare Warns ; Of' ^Carelessness , : : Rain Monday brought a de- finite- lull to the busiest week- end this, year in brush fires throughout Suffolk that re sult- ed iir a public warning being issued by district Forest Ran- ger Clarence E. Dare of Selden to ' motorists and residents. Mr. Dar e , whose territory covers all of Suff olk and part of Nassau county , on Sunday* urged, motorists not to, throw matches from their car s , which he said was one of the major causes for the fires rep orted in the spring and fall of each year. He also warned -local residents ' against - the practice of burning \ grass and brush in windy weather. .. Two of the largest . brusli fires over the week-end , each of which swept over more than 100 acres , occurred near East Manorville Saturday after- noon and in the Pinewood camp area in The Ridge Sunday afternoon. Other brush and grass fires re- ported outside Patchogue over .the we ek-end , and the area covered by each , follow : Saturday—Hampton Bays , 50 acres ; Great South beach , opposite Brook- haven , area undetermined. Sunday- Camp Newcombe , \Wading River , ten acres; Hauppauge , five acres; Great River , ten acres. A fire that covered 30 acres, took place Sunday in Oyster Bay town , just over the Suffolk line * Mr. Dare said. \ The Yaphank Fire department , a Conservation . department truck and about 50 members of the Civilian Conservation corps stationed at Camp Upton fought the latter ire all Sun- day afternoon and part of the ni ght. They were joined Sunday evening- by the Rocky Point and Miller Place Fire departments. A brush nre on the south side of the Main; line track s of \the Long- Island railroad a short distance east of Ronkonkoma station shortly before oioon Sunday turne d over more than an . acre before it was .put out by volunteer f iremen f rom the Ronkon- koma Fire department and the Lake- land unit . Sinn ' s home. Sunday—9 .: 10- a. m., rear of Jesse Mills property, 240 East Main street; partl y damaging small outbuilding; 10:30 a. , rn: , rear of dwellings near southeast corner of Maple avenue and Oak street , damag- ing small outbuilding rear of Howard Van Pelt' s home; 12:55 p. m., New York av enue , north of Roe boulevard , West , North Patchogue firemen re- sponded. The East Moriches , fire company was called out fighting a fire in the woods north of the Warner property on North Pine street Saturday f and on Sunday to a woods fire near the pond. About 11 o ' clock Saturday morning while firemen were fighting a blaze oh the Howell place; Center Moriches; a : second fire was discovered on In- wood road* endangering the homes of Lawrence Newins and William Hud- son. Because the fully grown reeds are a. perennial fire hazard , the firemen made little effort to stop the blaze , but ' coh-centrated their ef- forts on protecting several nearby buildings . The ' f lames attracted a large crowd to the section , which is near the Snapper , inn. PLAN POSTURE LECTURES IN THE COUNTY NEXT WEEK Mrs. Helen Powell Smith , extension specialist in clothing from .. ' the ' State College ' of Home Economics , Ithaca , will conduct .lire* , ' all-day meetings on posture in Suffolk count y next week. At 10:30 to 2:15 there will he training -schools for the posture lead- ers. In the aftern o on the raeeti n g-s will be . open to the public. Mrs. Smith will . speak ' and also show movies on \Posture \ and on \Feet. \ These meetings have been-arranged as fol- lows : Tuesday, Court house , River- head ; Wednesday , Methodist church hall , Smithtown ; Thursday, American Legi on hall , Sayville. To Form a Boys ' Club In Ronkonkoma Vicinity A club -for boys of R onkonkoma and vicinity, ranging from 14 to ' 20 years of age , will be \ organized at a meeting at 8:30 p. m. tonigh t , un- der the auspices of St. Joseph' s R. C. church of. Ronkonkoma. The Rev. John R. O'Mahoney, pastor , said Sunday, that the, proposed boys ' club would be similar . to that recentl y organized for the young girls of St. Joseph' s parish .
