W „ MP^ mw^j Brings Total of Fees and Expenses Up to Nearly $25 , 000— Lawyers ' Document Threat of Suit ? Claim Referred to Counsel for Con- sideration at January Meeting — Town Has Stood on Smaller Contract . The cost . .of architectural work on the Brookhaven Town hall alteration and enlarge- ment project , recently * com- pleted with -W. P.A, aid , was set at more than $25 , 000 , last ' Wednesday, when Architect John V. Van Pelt of Patchogue , through a -New York law firm , filed an itemized claim with the Town feoard. The claim., submitted by Wright , Gordon , Zachary and Parlin, totalled $19 , 359.67 , which Mr. Van Pelt said is in addition to the $5 , 825 he al- ready has received for his work on the project - Without discussion it was decided to consider the bill at the regular audit session in January. The claim includes an item of $100 which is described as \balance due under contract of July 28 , 1937 , \ various \ overhead\ charges aggregat- ing - $2 , 624.67 , and time charges of 831% hours at $20 an hour , totalling $16 , 635. In a statement accompanying the bill , it is asserted that instead -of one project costing about $75 , 000 , as originally planned , there were ulti- mately three separate projects cost- ing almost $200 , 000 before the build- ing was completed. Two months ago , the Town board denied Mr. Tan Pelt' s request for extra fees , except for necessary blue- print costs. This denial was voted on recommendation of Town Counsel Ralph J. Hawkins , who said that a resolution adopted by the board on July 28 , 1937 , and a lett er of ack- nowledgment received by the board from Mr. Van Pelt dated three days 'later , ¦\ constituted a contract. \ The board' s 1937 resolution said Mr. Van Pel t was to receive $5 , 400 , plus $525 previously paid him for preliminary work and that approxi- mately .$100 would be allowed for • blueprints. The formal claim filed Wednesday is seen , as the first step on the part of Mr. Van Pelt to take the matter to court if necessary, The itemized claim; follows: For architectural services in con- nection with the alteration and en- largement of the Brookhaven Town hall: Balance due under contract of July 28 , 1937 , $100 . For special extras from July 28 , 1937 , to December 1 , . 1939, as per itemized statement , as follows : , Early revision of arrangement of supervisor ' s room and vault : over- head $5.50 , John V.
