Funds are being ' raised by the group for a new carpet for the parish hall. A ' stag steak dinner was held last Thursday by the Legionnaires and boosters of William Merritt Halloek post at the post rooms on Church street. H. The cookie sale which ended on Monday was very successful , the troop having sold its quota of 150 boxes. City National Guard Artillerymen Getting Field Workouts at Upton CAMP Upton at Yaphank buzzed with activity over the week-end when 1 , 000 National Guardsmen from the metropolitan area swarmed into the camp grounds for a brief train- ing period. The visitors supple- m ented the C. C. C. residents of the camp. The National Guardsmen included the 104tli Field artillery of Jamaica and the 105th Field artillery of Brook- lyn and . the Bronx. Both' group s ar- rived late Friday, the 105th remain - ing until Sunday, and the 104th stay- ing until yesterday. The two units are expected to return to Yaphank again next week-end. The 105th men spent an uncom- fortable Friday night in the almost frosty barracks due to the fact that stoves promised for delivery Friday did not arrive until Saturday. On Saturday, the troops of the 104th engaged in a brisk s even-hour manuever , while the men of the 105th were fixing the 37 m. ni. guns and the automatic rifles. Sunday op- erations were pretty well rained out. This trip of tlie two groups is part of an extra seven -days ' training, which must be completed by all units of the National Guard throughout the country by January 31 next , to help in clearin g up present deficiencies. Lieut. Col . E. M. Podeyn of Garden City? acting commander of the 105th , sai d he hoped the additional seven days of field duty would be made permanent and suggested that hence- forth it be added to the regular two weeks ' training period in the spring and summer. Col. Redmond F. Ker- nan , Jr., commanding the 104th , also favored the additional week. ARMISTICE DAY DANCE SAT. AT BOB'S BRASS RAIL There will be a special Armistice day dance this Saturday evening , at Bob' s Brass Rail in Selden , and a special feature will be a buffet sup- per.
