Indiana , he came east during the World war , and served in the United States Navy. _ After the war , he mad-a his home in Nesconset , where he had been a member of the fire depart- ment. Mr. Dickey leaves his wife , Mrs. Frank Dickey of Nesconset , and several brothers and sisters in his native state. Funeral services were held at the Smithtown Episcopal church Monday, followed by final military rite s by members of the William Merritt Hallock post. MATTHEW PIETLER Matthew Pi .tier , aged 64 , of Ulrich lane , Centereach and Richmon d Hill , died last Wednesday at the Mather Memorial hospital , Port Jefferson . CHARLOTTE CORWIN Mrs. Charlotte 'Corwin , aged 91 , of Woodruff street , Bellport , widow of the late Captain Ed Corwin , died Thursday, at Mather Memorial hos- pital , Port Jefferson. A native-of Caldwell , N. J., Mrs. Corwin , one of Bellpprt' s oldest resi- dents , had lived there for the last 46 years. She leaves two daughters , Mrs. Edith -Creamer Weidner and Miss Ethel E. Corwin , both Bellport. ( Funeral . services were held from the home at 4 p. m. Sunday, the Rev, Harold C. Jones of B ellport officiat- ing. Interment was in Woodland cemetery, Bellport. MRS. MARY E. BISCHOFP Mrs. Ma_y E. Bischoff , aged 78 , a resident of Ronkonkoma for the past 18 years , died last Thursday at her home on O cean avenue , Ronkonkoma , after a short illness. Born in Ger- many, she came to . the United States at the age of 14 years. She was the widow of Henry Bischoff , who died about 15 years ago. PURVIS Harry H. Purvis , • aged 63 , mayor of Belle Terre since its incorporation about ten years ago , died of a heart ailment October 11 in Brooklyn , after several weeks ' illn-sss. Born hi Brooklyn , Mr. Purvis , owner of the . firm of Edward. Purvis & Son , engineers , of Brooklyn , came to Belle Terr e in 1926 and was instrumental in \ the incorporating \' of the village. It \yas his custom for the past sev- eral years, to travel by plane from Port , Jefferson to his Brooklyn office. He was secretary of the Port Jef- ferson board of education , past pres- ident of the Suffolk County Village Officials ' association , and was a mem- ber of the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and Port Jefferson Yacht club. He leaves his- wife , two sons , a daughter^ and five grandchil- dren. Funeral services were held October 13 at Fresh Pond crem- atory, Queens. EDWARD W. CAPvTER Edward W- , Carter , aged 67 , Suf- folk Surrogat e ' s court crier and su- perintendent of the Suffolk County fair , died Monday-night at his home in Riverhead after a long* illness. He was known as a coach and pro- moter of amat eur theatrical organi- zations and was a charter member and treasurer of the Riverhead Ex- empt Firemen ' s association.
