Five Persons Burned to Death Sn Car-truck Crash Near Riv erh' d FOUR persons were burned to death north of Riverhead at noon Monday, when the sedan in which they were , riding overturned and burst into flames after colliding with a truck . The dead: Miss Mary DePetris , aged 27 , of Mattituck , driver. Mrs. Vincienzio DePetris , 50 , her mother , also Mattituck. Joseph Schavonini , 67 , of Green- port. Mrs. Guigio Guigia Schavonini , 55 , his wife. . Mrs. Louise Maniello , 29 , of Matti- tuck , who along with Harry DePetris , 55 , father of the driver , was pulled from the blazing vehicle , died before noon yesterday at the Eastern Long Island hospital , Greenport. The eld- er DePetris was also brought to the hospital but was discharged Monday night. Also burned was Stanley Troyan of Middle road , Riverhead , a passing truck driver , who ran to the burning car , and broke a window and pulled Mrs. Maniello and DePetris through. Troyan sustained severe burns of both hands. Frank Krystoff , 49 , of Bridge- hampton , . driver of the truck in- volved in the crash , who escaped in- jury was arrested on a criminal neg- ligence charge and was later , com- mitted to the county jail in default of $4 , 000 bail , pending a joint examin- ation and inquest next week. According to police , the DePetris car was westbound on Route 58 , the new paved highway that passes north of Riverhead. The Krystoff truck was northbound on Northville turn- p ike , the two vehicles colliding at the intersection. Troyan , also north- bound on Northville highway, was riding just ahead of the Krystoff truck , and stopped on hearing the crash. The Riverhead Fire depart- ment was called , but the flames swept through the car in a few m in- utes. . \ Coroner J. Mott Heath of Green- port arrived shortly after the acci- dent , which was investiga te d by town and state police. . Miss DePetris , a Chicago school teacher , was visiting her parents at Mattituck . The group was on the way to the World' s Fair when the crash occurred.
