Page 8 - The HELM - Thursday, February Jth, 1963 Lynbrook Lioi^s Awards Today 45 Teenage Boys Honored The constructive community efforts of 45 teenage boys of Lynbrook Higli School—members of the Hi-Y—will receive pub- lic recognition today, February 7th, when the Lynbrook Lions Club awards each of the youngsters its coveted Certificate of Service. Working without pay from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. o\'er a 10-day period from Deceinber 14th to December 24th, the boys assisted the Lions !plub in its annual sale of Christmas trees for the bene- fit of local .charitable groups. The boys' efforts helped the Lions Club to meet successfully its 1961- 1962 goal of $4,500 for the purchase of an electronic blood counter for the laboratory department of South Nassau Communities Hospital. The award ceremony will take place today at 12:15 p.m. at Jo- seph's East Rockaway Point House, 2 Main Street, East Rocaway, it was announced by Jack Becker, Lions Club president, and George E. Schnupp, Jr., and George Benson, Xmas tree sale co-chairmen. The main speaker will be Clar- ence Day, principal of the Marion Street School of Lynbrook, who is also manager of the championship semi-pro baseball team, the Mur- Lees. The boys will also be greeted by Bernhardt Curt Thennann of Bald- win, a former soccer athlete, who i.s 'back on his legs\ after suffering the amputation of both of his legs above the knees, following an atito acci- dent last June. Thermann learned to u.se his new legs in 10 weeks of in- tensive training in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabili- tation, a new service at South Nas- sau Communities Hospital. Illlllllllllllllllllll The Lions Club will also honor the following non-members who also gave their services: David Van Home, who contributed electrical work; Herman Market, for trucking help; Sam Pepper, for electric pow- er; and Dominick Florio, manager of Food Fair Stores which has made its parking lot available for Xmas tree sales by the Lions Club for the past 10 years . Thomas Rissacher, a member of the Lioas Club and a member of the Board of Directors of South Nas- sau Communities Hospital, provided the Xmas trees which were sold by the Lions Club. A, J. Schrativeiser .A.rthur J. Schratweiser died last Thursday at South Nassau Com- munities Hospital, Oceanside, after a brief illness. A former Mayor of East Rock- away, his administration started and completed the East Rockaway Vil- lage Hall and the Talfor Memoriid Boat Basin. Mr. Schratweiser was a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Mary's Knights of Columbus, the East Rockawa\' Fire Department, th Robert F. Garrison Veterans o Foreign Wars, and the American Leg'on. Mass was offered Monday at St. Raymomi's Catholic Church. Burial was at the Long Island National Cemeterv- at Pinelawn. Mr. Schratweiser is .survived by two daughter, Lauretta Schratweiser and Sister M. Isabel, and two sisters Susan Schratweiser and Mr^. Kath- leen Lockwood. m Florence E. Dayton Services were conducted yester- day for Mrs. Florence E. Dayton, of 114 Edmimd Street, Lynbrook. Mrs. Dayton was a member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion, Post 335, and a past president of the Lynbrook Women's Republican Club. She is survived by her hus- band, William J. Dayton, her son Edward M. Dayton, her grandson William J. Dayton, and sister Ethel Armstrong. \Wizard of Oz\ The South Shore Drama Group will present the children's favorite \Wizard of Oz\ on February 21, 1963, the eve of Washington's birth- day, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hewlett- Woodmere Public Library. Children ages .5-11 are invited to attend; ad- mission is free by ticket available at the Children's Reference Desk in the Library. Children who enjoyed last year's presentation by the South Shore Drama Group of \The Emperor's New Clothes\ will surely be thrilled with this current production of \Wiz- ard of Oz.\ Tickets are available on a fir.st-come-first-served basis so be sure to come early.
