With a little foresight and a big investment, however, some are being preserved, and for a good cause. The former home of Lydia Pratt on Dosoris Lane, which had sat vacant for about five years, was recently renovated to be come a designer showhouse to benefit the American Heart Association, and those interested in taking a peek at the glorious mansion can stop by for a tour from now through Thanksgiving weekend. Artist Eva Karsai, a longtime resident of Glen Cove, came up with the idea of using the property as a designer showhouse after a new owner took possession last year. Having painted a mural in the house for the previous owner in 2001 , she was familiar with the house and felt passionate about preserving it, while also well aware of the great expense of renovating. She then went searching for a producer and a charity and says “ everything clicked ” for \Home Is Where The Heart Is ” to come together as the inaugural designer showhouse. \The designers were really im pressed with the house, ” says Karsai. \I ’ m so happy everything worked out. ” Denyse Rinfret has been a resident of Manhasset for 25 years and her design firm is located in Manhasset and Manhattan. Denyse likes to take a new look on tradition. Her design is classic but young. The Maifhawisi designers who will be participating in the Showhouse are Anne Tarasoff Interiors and Vasi Ypsilantis Design Associates. ■ Ellen Baron-Goldstein of Manhasset decorated the child's room.
