MANHASSET PRESS - SEPTEMBER 18 - 24,2013 3 Christ Church Rector Retires By MANHASSET PRESS STAFF M anhasset @ antonnews . com The Very Reverend David B. Lowry, Rector of Christ Church Manhasset, re cently retired from Christ Church, after almost ten years as Rector there, and almost 41 years since of his Ordination to the Priesthood. Father Lowry and his wife Mary have relocated to New Orleans, where they lived previously. As part of the celebration of Father Lowry and Mary's years with Christ Church, a special Eucharist service was celebrated on Sunday, August 25. A record number of parishioners were in attendance to honor Lowry's service to the Church, as well as many members from the community-at-large. Father Lowry was acknowledged and thanked for his accomplishments: of encouraging Christ Church ’ s ministry be more than worship and that it incorporate more Parish Community Outreach through the Food Pantry, caregiver support group, and Helping Hands, as a few examples; for his innovative and path-breaking ecumenical outreach to partner with The Reverend Dr. Steven D. Pierce of the Community Reformed Church to offer joint Sunday School, youth pro grams, and various services through out the year, as well as his partner ship with Pastor Paul Chung of the New Heart Mission Korean Church to offer joint fellowship and services during the year. And, Father Lowry was also thanked for his parting gift to Christ Church: to spearhead the renovation of the Parish House with Mike Puntillo for its future use for ministry and outreach. Father Lowry and Mary were pre sented with an oil painting of Christ Church by the Vestry and Parish as a thank you for their years of service to the church. The beautiful painting was rendered by Christ Church parishioner and Manhasset resident, artist Debbie Czlegedy. The Christ Church Choir reprised the music composed in Father Lowry ’ s honor by McNeil Robinson, and sang a beautiful closing Benediction. Yeou- Cheng Ma also performed a Bach Violin Sonata at Communion. A well-attended reception under the apple tree just outside the Sacristy. Father Lowry thanked everyone for joining him and commented that it has been an extraor dinary privilege and blessing to serve Christ Church these past ten years. mmm Father Lowry and his wife Mary being honored upon their retirement from Christ Church. This sale is in partnership with Munsey Park and Shelter Rock Elementary Schools ’ Student Councils, the High School Best Buddies Program, and the Middle School and High School Art Clubs. This event will take place Saturday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manhasset Secondary School front field. Pumpkins, gourds and com stalks will be for sale with prices starting at $5. All proceeds will be donated to the charitable choice of the elementary schools' student councils and to the Best Buddies Program. Please be sure to come on by and support a good cause. The BOE Seeks Members For Advisory Committees The Manhasset Union Free School District Board of Education is seeking interested Manhasset residents to serve on its board-appointed advisory committees. Committees are appoint ed for Finance (CACF), Legislative Affairs (CACLA), Technology (CACIT) and Athletics (MAAC). The board also appoints community members to its Audit Committee. Additional commit tees can be appointed on an as-need ed basis by the board. Committee members are generally appointed to three-year terms. Meetings are held monthly or bi-monthly. All members of the community who wish to contribute their exper tise to any of these committees are welcomed to apply.
