The meeting continued with the presentation of several awards and citations to long-time employee Wilson Mead, who is slated to retire at the end of September. Mead, a ultility worker, has worked for the village for 23 years. With a beaming smile and moist eyes, Mead stood humbly as he re ceived accolades from Cindy Cardinal on behalf of Judi Bosworth ’ s office, and from Munsey Park Trustee Sue Auriemma, on behalf of the village. Mead thanked everyone and beat a hasty retreat. The formal meeting began with a discussion of the pending legislation amending the tree law. DeMento introduced the new counsel for the village, Robert Morici, a Munsey Park resident, and opened the floor to discussion of the new legislation. The board also took up the question of the village tree-trimming contracts. The bids were outlined and the contract was awarded to Danny D.P. Corporation of Port Washington. The board then dismissed the ste nographer and asked Jeff Franchetti, head of the technology consul, to give his report. Franchetti indicated he was working on re-engineering the website to make it more user-friendly. Trustee Sean Haggerty reported on the progress made by the Manhasset Lakeville Water District in upgrading of fire hydrants and by National Grid upgrading gas lines. Trustee Auriemma gave a report on the village historian ’ s efforts to update the files to the current year. Daniel Meyer, a Manhasset High School student, is tasked with the ef fort. In addition, a Julia Auriemma is updating a welcome letter so that new residents have a reference resource on the village. Auriemma gave an update on the various items that still need to be addressed from Sandy, mostly related to hanging wires and elimination of \double-poling.\ Double-poling oc curs when a broken pole is replaced by a new pole. Typically LIPA puts in a pole and transfers its wires over. Verizon and Cablevision then come in to attach their wires to the new pole, and ultimately remove the old pole. The last part of the transaction sometimes fails be accomplished and several broken poles remain. Before the meeting was adjourned, Munsey Park resident Vincent Syracuse brought up an issue related to Verizon not supporting landlines. According to Syracuse, Verizon is no longer supporting line mainte nance on landlines regardless of maintenance contract because the existing copper lines are too costly to maintain. The board responded that Verizon was trying to have all customers change to FIOS. Willie Mead recieves a certificate from Cindy Cardinal (Munsey Park resident).
