At the present time, it is said, tax books for town \taxes are held by the town receivers . for nine months and school tax books are held for eight at.d one half months. A large percentage of taxpayers always was in doubt as to whither taxes for preceding years had been paid. This was seen as causing endless confusion and expense to the taxpayers since many of them came from great distances. It also delayed collection of the taxes. The amendent provides for the! retention by the receivers of town tax bocdcs for an additional year. At the present time, school districts taxes are paid by the County Treasurer on the ISthi day of fjune, following each tax levy. Applies to School Tax Another amendment provides that the receivers issue a eprti- fleate for the County Treasurer. It provldM that the school tax book* be retalB»4 for one ad- tdttional year in order to allow taxpayers a better knmrtunlty to pay thClr taxes. 'The present law says that all tak anticipation' notes - for school dlstri^ must be paid within one year. Taxes cannot all be collected in-tbai space of time, and in ad dition the sale of school taxes 1$ included in the same tax sale as the State, County and Town. The new change permits the renewal of tak Anticipation notes at a rate of interest not exceeding 6 per cent. Other amendments in Mr. Oow- sey ’ s legislation, approved by the Governor are as follows: Tax sale books be returfled on May 'l instead of Mkreh 1 and owner may redeem pre^rty until County 'Treasuper has delivered, a d^ or a sale has plftC$ *' The receipt of a registered j Ooff, governors, letter is sufficient evidence of ' service of foreclosure. The super visors have the same right to cor rect errors In. connection with the assestihent and levy, of school taxes as they now have to correct errors relating to the assessment and levy to the town.
