MANHASSET PRESS - DECEMBER 25. 1997 North Shore Health System ’ s Laura Green Honored Community Relations Specialist Receives Two Awards Laura Green, a community relations specialist at the North Shore Health Sys tem, recently received two awards for “ Geography ;is Destiny, ” an in-depth arti cle for Mirabella magazine. The article examined variations in the treatment for breast cancer across the United States. She won the Newswomen ’ s Club of New York Front Page Award for special ized magazine writing in a competition judged by the editorial director of The New Yorker, the editors-in-chief of Good Housekeeping, Glamour, TV Guide and Elle, and the former editor of New Woman and New York Woman. Green ’ s Mirabella article also was rec ognized by National Breast Cancer Awareness Month which granted it an Honorable Mention Award. The competi tion honors excellence in efforts to raise awareness of breast cancer and the issues surrounding its treatment. A former Huntington resident. Green was a member.of the faculty of North western University ’ s Medill School of Journalism, a past senior editor of Chica go magazine, and a reporter at the Chica go Sun-Times before Joining the North Shore Health System ’ s Community Rela tions Department. Last year, the Community Relations Department and its staff members re ceived many awards for North Shore Laura Green, a community relations spe cialist at the North Shore Health System. Health System advertising and marketing. Healthcare Marketing Report, which con ducts an influential annual competition, selected the health system ’ s television ad vertising as its 1996 Gold Winner.
