Pallis- ter of Ryder Rjad, aTUiounce the en^ragement of their daughter Kathryn Madeleine, to Peter Ed ward Spier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. A. Spier of Circle Drive. Miss Pallister is a graduate of the Manhasset High School and Smith College 1967. She is a mem ber of the faculty of the Nor^- port schools. Mr^ Spier, a native of Holland, was educate there, graduating from the Rijkaacademie Voor Beal- dende Kansten in Amsterdam. He served as a Lieutenant with the Royal _ Netherlands Navy. Mr. Spier is an illustrator. A July wedding is planned. MRS. HUTCHINSON SPEAKER FOR DJiJt The regular meeting of North Riding Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be held on Tuesday. February 4, at two o ’ clock at the home of Mrs. Herman Karl Marker, 5 Rose Ave., Great Neck. Mrs. Louis F. Kemp of Great Neck will be the coi- hostess. The guest speaker, will be Mary T. Hutchinson, Deputy Commis sioner 01 the l^partment of Pub lic Welfare and Regent of Oyster Bay Chapter N.S.D.A.R. will talk on “ Problems of the Welfare De partment in Nassau County and How They Are M'-t.” On Monday, January 27, mem bers of he Board met at the home of the Regent, Mrs. Charles Faldl of Flower Hill. Chairmen of the standing committees were present to work on the state re port covering the Chapter ’ s vari ous activities. The meeting was followed by luncheon. At the controls of the plane, which was flying from New York International Airport, Idlewild, was Captain Robert Ditfurth, 38, quickly brought the flames under a veteran pilot whose home is on Paper Mill Road. Moments after the airliner's landing gear touched the concrete runway, the airport ’ s control tower radioed Ditfurth that his No. 1 engine, on the plane ’ s left side, was on fire. The Long Island pilot released a carbon dioxide mecnamsm , tha ’ ’ control.* : A fire department truck rolled up and doused the engine with more carbon dioxide. Because heavy Smoke Iprevented them from using the rankp, the 59 passengers and file ckw members were forced leave the plane by the pilot ’ s icockpit.
