Three lives were lost, and the num- ber no doubt would have been much greater but for the heroic work of a. few persons who warned residents and aided them to escape from the danger- ous zonesi. Outstanding service was performed by Miss Opal Wright. tele- phone operator at Phoenicia. Sensing trouble in the increasing roar oi‘ the stream near her home. where the local switchboard is located.
