New Director at the Long Island Arts Council Laurence Dresner is the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport's new executive director. The Long Island Arts Council at Freeport is an arts organization that nur- tures the professional development of artists and arts organizations on Long Island and encourages the community's involvement in the arts. It also sponsors a juried photography exhibit at the Freeport library each spring and a concert series along the Nautical Mile each summer, among other programs. The Long Island Arts Council is 39 years old. Mr. Dresner brings a wealth of experi- ence to his new role leading the Long Island Arts Council. He is an accomplished composer whose many pieces have been performed to audiences throughout the United States and Europe. He has been involved in musical theatre with numerous off-off Broadway shows and cabaret; directed talent productions, jazz bands, and has also produced chamber concerts. Additionally, Mr. Dresner is a teacher in the Diocese of Rockville Centre Parochial School system. He earned his Master's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music and is a member of the Long Island Philharmonic Chorus, the Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs, American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and New Music USA. Mr. Dresner is a board member of sever- al not-for-profit organizations including the Long Island Composers Alliance, Opera Night, the Westbury Arts Council, and is a member of the Long Island Arts Alliance's Arts Advocacy Team. Additionally, he is a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and has been a finan- cial planner since 1990 with a specialized niche of assisting clergy. He is the author of a book on finance and has written numerous articles for web sites and trade magazines. Mr. Dresner is a member of several financial industry organizations including the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP). As Executive Director of the Long Island Arts Council of Freeport, Mr. Dresner said he plans to work with the board of directors to develop a one,, three, and five year plan. \We hope to expand and diversify our board of directors; increase the diversity of our programs, and expand our audience base to the surrounding communities,\ said Mr. Dresner. He would also like to \add public art such as murals and sculptures to our local spaces; bring more visitors to our village by creating a vibrant 'art scene'; raise peo- ple's awareness of the importance of art in education, and our quality of life.\ For more information about the Long Island Arts Council go to www.liacfreeport.org.
