VO (U 60 cs OH Former Freeport court clerk Muriel Nagle dies a ex o 00 I <u £ Muriel Nagle, 78, died September 3 at her daughter's home in Montclair, Virginia. She was surrounded by her family. Her strong will to live and her ability to enjoy the everyday carried her through a grueling battle with cancel;., , Muriel was born November 2,1933 in Brooklyn, to John and Nellie Fewer. She was the youngest of four chil- dren. She is survived by her eldest sister Mary Whalen and her three daughters, Muriel Nagle (Doug Bach), Meg Stevens (David Stevens) and Marybeth Nagle. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William and Michaela Stevens. Muriel's parents were immigrants from Newfoundland who set- tled in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn where they gave birth to their four children. Muriel graduated from Bay Ridge High School in 1951. Soon after, she landed her first job at American Machine and Foundry. She was mar- ried in 1957 and moved to Freeport in 1965 where she raised her family and lived for the remainder of her life. Muriel Nagle She held the position of court clerk for over 10 years at the Freeport Village Court where she was loved and respected by her coworkers. She was known for inspiring others at work to reach their potential. She was relied upon for her excellent work ethic and appreciated for her intelligence and quick wit. Muriel retired in 2007 and since then Could ' frequently be found enjoying a good mystery and a cup of tea. Muriel was admired and loved by her family for her strong will and determination in tough situations. She was a great lover of baseball, in particular the New York Mets. Muriel enjoyed lis- tening to music, especial- ly songs that celebrate the family's Irish her- itage. She was a big fan of dogs, lobster, and a good martini. A gathering to celebrate Muriel's life will be held on Saturday, September 22, at EB Elliot's, Woodcleft Avenue in Freeport from 3 to 5 p.m. The family requests that any gifts be made in Muriel's honor to the Long Island Chapter of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. FPD 'School's Open' campaign Police Officers Steven Margiotta and Scott Ballard of the Freeport Police Department, along with local school chil- dren, helped AAA New York to launch its 67th annual \School's Open - Drive Carefully\ campaign at the Freeport police headquarters. Officers Margiotta and Ballard will be mounting colorful \School's Open\ posters in Freeport to warn motorists to be extra careful as'thousands of local young- sters return to school. \The help that we get from our club- area police departments adds to the effectiveness of our 'School's Open' campaign,\ said Donna Galasso, assis- tant director of the club's Traffic Safety unit. \We appreciate the efforts of Officers Margiotta and Ballard, which will result in increased safety for all stu- dents,\ she said.
