West Wind rezoning hearing postponed again by Jim Golding A proposed hearing to consider rezoning 104 East Bedell Street that had been set for February 22 has again been adjourned at the request of the applicant, BSD Development/C&Y Realty of Brooklyn, that had also been adjourned and carried over from early December. Village trustees approved the adjourn ment at Monday’s regular board meet ing. The rezoning request would change the designation of the former West Wind Yacht Club site from Residence A District and Business A District to Marine Apartment/Boatel, Condominium District. At the original hearing that had been held in late August, several neighbor hood residents voiced their opposition to the plan. At Monday’s meeting, resident Vincent Greco, a strong critic of the plan, again declared his opposition and asked that no further hearings be held. “Enough is enough,’’ he said. “1 don’t believe another hearing is in anyone’s best interests.” In a brief statement that Mr. Greco read, he said, in part, “Repeated extend ed adjournments and other manipula tions such as the use of the ‘age card' and other legal measures...are lawyers’ maneuvers to draw out ^ d wear down opposition...” He added, “They’re waiting for peo ple to drop off.” Another neighborhood resident com plained about the lack of notification that the hearing was to be held. Mayor Andrew Hardwick replied that the applicant had requested the post ponement and “We have to go through the process.” He assured the residents that “You will be notified in ample time.” He commented that the owner is “losing valuable time” by continuing to request adjournments. Two other hearings are still slated for the February 22 meeting, rezoning 125 West Sunrise Highway to a gasoline sta tion overlay district designation, and an amendment to the Village Code on noise abatement. Trustees also scheduled a public hear ing March 8 for the upcoming Community Development Block Grant 36th Program Year. The hearing will begin at 8 p.m. In other actions, the board tabled a request to amend traffic regulations to add additional stop signs along South Long Beach Avenue between Hamilton Street and Roosevelt Avenue after a neighborhood resident complained that the additional signage would be exces sive. Peggy Lester commented that the street is “not a heavy traffic” corridor and two stop signs and a traffic signal already exist within a few blocks on the street. The board did amend the traffic rules to add a 12-fool handicapped parking designation along Liberty Park Drive and Reverend E. Mitchell Mallette Drive. During public comment, Cynthia Krieg questioned an item in the public notices section of The Leader about an underwater SCUBA trail being devel oped by the village.
