Village trustees approve nearly $600K in contracts by Jim Golding Freeport trustees awarded contracts totaling more than $590,000, set a public hearing for Monday, October 1, for a bulkhead contract and acted on several other agenda items at their Monday board meeting. Also receiving approval was an inter-municipal agreement with the Village of Rockville Centre for access to Freeport's Recreation Center for Rockville Centre's youth swim pro- gram, at a cost of $2 per person per session, between September 18 and August 4, 2008. Contracts approved included: • $503,346 for construction of three Water Department wells and mechan- ical work. • Four contracts totaling about $86,500 to the Okonite Company of West Paterson, New Jersey, for cable and other equipment for the Electric Department. • An existing contract with J&J Miles Rubber Corp. of Freeport for tires and tubes was extended for another year at a 5 percent increase per item. The October 1 hearing will address a $35,600 contract with Stout Construction of Patchogue for bulk- heading at 461 Nassau Avenue, and a property assessment of about $35,000. Trustees amended the traffic code to prohibit parking on the east side of Ocean Avenue North between Randall and Lena Avenues from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, and between Brooklyn and Randall Avenues from 3-7 a.m, Fridays. The board also approved a parade request from Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Church for Saturday, September 29, 4-5:30 p.m. along Broadway, North Columbus Avenue, East Seaman, Union Street, Leonard Avenue, Star Place, Independence Avenue, back to North Columbus, then west on East Dean Street to Graffing Place, then south to Broadway. Requests for a block party on Forest Avenue between North Main and Ellison on September 22, and for a banner across South Main and Mill Road announcing Fire Department Expo and Fire Prevention Month also received approval. Trustees amended a resolution from November 13, 2006 for a contract for three Electric Department transform- ers for nearly $11,000. The board adjourned its agenda meeting and went into executive ses- sion to discuss personnel issues. The next regular board meeting will be Monday, September 24.
