Muldowney Old Fashioned Fireman's Tournament. The Tournament features fierce competition among teams from Long Island's volunteer fire departments fully sanctioned by the Nassau County Drill Team Captains' Association. The action will begin at 10 a.m. at the Freeport Fire Department Training Center, 200 Hanse Avenue, one half mile south of Mill Road in Freeport. The tournament was established in 2002 as a means of honoring the mem- ory of Richard T. Muldowney Jr., a former captain of Engine Company 1 as well as a fireman with Ladder 7, FDNY, who was killed in the terrorist attack on September 11. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to help establish a memorial in his name. His brother, Kevin Muldowney, serves as first assistant chief in Freeport. \I know Richie would want to be associated with an event where our fel- low firefighters get the chance to demonstrate their skills in a fun-filled competitive manner,\ said Kevin Muldowney. \That's precisely what this tourna- ment is all about and I'm grateful that our company has decided to continue this tradition for the sixth consecutive year. We will not allow time to erase the wonderful memories we have of Richie nor what the fire service meant to him.\ There are eight competitive events among participating teams including three man ladder, running ladder, run- ning hose, running hose replacement, efficiency, efficient replacement, two into one and bucket brigades. Soft drinks and refreshments will be avail- able for purchase and bleachers are provided to give onlookers a ringside view of the events. The proposed change for 81-83 South Bergen Place had received strong support from Mayor William F. Glacken at the June meeting. \The major advantage is it's within walking distance of places people need to go to,\ the mayor said at Monday's hearing. The facility would be handicapped accessible and include an elevator. The co-ops would be offered for sale to senior citizens age 55 and older, starting at about $180,000 for a 611- square-foot one-bedroom unit, to between $250,000 and $275,000 for two bedrooms. Twelve of the units would be one-bedroom and the remain- ing 22 .would have two bedrooms. Monthly maintenance fees would be about $200 and taxes would be lower than for a single-family home, an attor- ney for the developer explained. Northwest Civic Association President Kenneth Bagatelle posed several questions about the proposed facility, including the need for five sto- ries. Mayor Glacken responded that because of limited space in the village, property in smaller areas that cannot expand horizontally must expand verti- cally. The proposed project must still go through the site approval hearing process at a future date to be announced. c. c CK5 g H o> S3 o. o> Two arrested in Baldwin The First Squad reports the arrest of Leonard J.
