72nd Year, No. 33 Freeport, N.Y. 11520 The Community Newspaper Thursday, August 16, 2007 ^^•- It wa;> a \en bus\ weekend along Woodcleft Avenue with seven sailboats from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis arriving at the Esplanade and the Freeport Fire Department hosting Nassau County's Second Battalion Parade. Five local fire departments took part in the march Saturday after- noon, including Freeport, Island Park, Oceanside, Baldwin, Long Beach and Point Lookout. Each department displayed their apparatus, including sev- eral of the antique pieces of equipment. Freeport's own 100 year old pumper. Jumbo, which has been rebuilt and restored, took part in the event. The fire- fighters participated in the tour- nament held at the Fire Training Center on Sunday. After a delay caused by mechanical problems, seven Annapolis sailboats arrived on the Esplanade early Sunday morning. The midshipmen attended a baseball game at Shea~ Stadium where the Mets were victorious over the Florida Marlins 10-4, and then enjoyed a dinner with members of the Annapolis Parents Club at Pier 95 in Freeport.
