3 60 1 by Linda Hendrickson Kudos were bestowed upon Freeport's finest scholar-athletes at the annual Sports Awards program. The George B. Moser Award is given annu- ally to the top tenscholar/athletes in the graduating class. Kimberiy Lipman-White played var- sity tennis, spring and winter track and graduated third in the Class of 2007. .She will be attending Columbia University in September and hopes to major in medicine. St. John's University is the college of choice for bowler and softball play- er Melissa Mondesir. Graduating fifth in the senior class, she feels one should \Live a little. You can't become old and wise if you were never young and crazy.\ \Things are only impossible until they're not,\ reflected drum major Scott Wiener. Heading to Hofstra in the fall, he hopes to continue his tennis on an intramural basis and hopes to major in finance and minor in music. Bowler and Class of 2007 activist, Elaine Carelus, will join Mondesir at St. John's University. She has been involved in many service activities at FHS. Ashley Karp served as a tennis player and bowler for the Lady Red Devils and will major in business at Quinnipiac University. She was also very active in DEC A activities and competitions. Basketball standout Dominique Williams will be attending the University of New Haven in September and hopes to make the basketball team as a walk-on. This summer she is coaching Freeport's Recreation Summer League Team along with teammate Erika Parker. Elizabeth Peters, president of Freeport's Chapter of the National Honor Society and swimming and bowling let- ter-winner, will be attending Siena College in the fall. \Liz gave great sup- port to the younger swimmers on the team,\ commented Coach Barry. Iron woman Nwamaka Okobi, who qualified six times for triple jump competition at the state level, will attend Rutger's University on a full track scholarship. She has also been helping this summer ready the Wall of Fame boards as they are being prepared for display. Daniel Camacho, who ran cross coun- try, winter and spring track, was accept- ed to New York University on early deci- sion. An Advanced Placement honors scholar, he has taken an AP class on independent study. He helped with stu- dent government and the paper. Bowler Marhissa Bailey will be attending Fayetteville State University in the fall. She was a Renaissance woman at FHS and was involved in a variety of clubs and service activities. All ten scholar/athletes graduated in the top 2 percent of the Class of 2007. All ten were members of the National Honor Society. All ten were involved in at least five different school activities. All ten were hard workers and all are dream-makers. The Keith \Muggsy\ Holdener Trophy is awarded annually in memory of Keith Holdener, who was a former lacrosse player who attained excellence on as well as off the athletic field. He was a great goalie and made the All League Team. Ray Werner was this year's winner of this coveted award. He was a two-year football starter who played wide receiver and defensive back on the football team. He earned Conference Honors for his efforts.
