During the last race of the day, as the tem- perature climbed into the high 90s, one set of paddlers got off to a great start, but after they rounded the bend at Waterfront Park, the two decided the water was just too inviting and slipped in for a cool dip while the other con- testants paddled furiously to the finish line. The two strays were rounded up and deliv- ered to land courtesy of the Coast Guard ten- der. The annual event raises funds to benefit PAL sports programs for young people.
