Freeporter is 100! oo «t 1 -a 0) -a '3 <D H by Beatrice Colter Laura Elizabeth Colter is celebrating her 100th birthday on February 15. She was born in Whitehall, South Carolina, the youngest of three children. At a young age she migrated to Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1925 she married her childhood sweetheart Herman Colter and imme- diately moved to Freeport, where they celebrate 62 years of marriage until Herman's death in 1987. This union was blessed with seven children, four of whom are now deceased. Laura worked as a housekeeper for many years and remains a close friend of her former employer. The family is in membership at Bethel AME Church of Freeport: Laura served as a stewardess for over 50 years and is now an honorary stewardess. She remained a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Henry Morrison Deloney #785 of Freeport for 65 years. She served as the flag-bearer for the unit and enjoyed participating in the Memorial Day parade and visit- ing veterans at Northport Hospital. Laura is the original member of the Bethel AME senior program. She was always a welcome sight with a warm spirit and smile enjoying the fellow- ship, arts and crafts and trip to Lido Beach in summer. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church senior program of Hempstead. Laura was active until the age of 97 when she had some health problems. She now enjoys the comfort of home with her two daughters Laura Mae and Beatrice, watching Dr. Phil and the soaps and sewing as well as enjoying the company of her family and friends. LAURA COLTER will turn 100 years old in Frebruary. CALL TODAY ABOUT OUR 2 FOR 1 OFFER* To ROUND Ou YOUR KIDS EDUCATION.. Encourage your children to read the newspaper!!
