i LIBRARY THE 68th Year, No. 36 Freeport, N.Y. 11520 The Community Newspaper Thursday, September 4, 2003 How I spent my summer vacation,,, MAKING FREEPORT HIGH SCHOOL'S Summer Graduation meaningful to 53 graduates who joined the Graduating Class of 2003 at the end of August were, from left, FHS Principal Dr. Michael Courtney, Freeport Board of Education Trustee Carmen Pineyro, Mayor William Glacken and County Legislator David Denenberg. The summer of 2003 may have been full of beach days, video game playing and television watching for some local youths, but for Freeport High School summer school students it was also a time to learn, complete high school require- ments - and graduate! On Thursday, August 21, in a 7:30 p.m. cere- mony at Freeport High-School, graduate is what 53 young men and women did with all the pomp and circumstance of the June commencement ceremonies held earlier this year. On the high school auditorium stage fes- tooned with bright flowers; a keynote address was delivered by William Glacken, Freeport's Mayor. Mary Lippert, summer school principal, presented awards and recognitions to the gradu- ating students, and then each student had his or her moment in the commencement spotlight. Dr. Michael Courtney, Freeport High School Principal, presented the candidates for gradua- tion and the diplomas were handed to each stu- dent by Board of Education trustee Carmen Pineyro. As the ceremony ended, for the graduates it was an opportunity to celebrate this achieve- ment with many family and friends in atten- dance in the school auditorium. Proud families presented the grads with flower and balloon bouquets .and helped bid farewell to the many classmates who made the journey together. This year's Freeport High School summer school grads are: Mery Alarcon, Johnnetta Allen, Dilenia Alvarez, Kedian Brown, Jennifer Castro, Darlyne Charles, Steven Chase-Hill, Justus Coleman, Luis Cortes, Shaunte Curtis, Christina Davis, Randrequa Dicks, Antonia A PROUD and happy Freeport family celebrates with their 2003 graduate Christina Medina.
