Adults share their careers with Freeport students ri o o r-i CJ _Q o a •a c/} L« • 3 JS At Bayview Avenue School in Freeport, students got a chance to learn first-hand about do/ens of career choices at the school's annual Career Awareness Expo. \It was great to see Bayview parents and other community mem hers share with our students what their careers are all about,\ said Principal Jclain Hubbard. \Students really got to see bow the skills they learn in school are used in the real world.\ A financial advisor, administrative assis- tant, dentist, doctor, nurse, social worker, software engineer, public relations represen- tative and tennis instructor all told about a typical day at their jobs. They also explained which skills students would need to learn for each of these careers. Children also met a K-9 rescue dog from (he Freeport Police Department, visited a Freeport fire truck, and learned the art of flo- ral arranging. Special guests included Freeporl Mayor Bill Glacken, Deputy Mayor Rcnaire Frierson, school board President Sunday Coward and school board Trustee Ronald Ellerbe. DAPHNEE THEODORE-DANIEL, Bayview Avenue mother and a regis- tered nurse, told students\ how to prepare for a career in nursing. FREEPORT MAYOR BILL GLACKEN explained to students how their local government works. NASSAU BOCES School Public Relations Consultant Rosemary Leonetti showed students how stories about their school end up in the news- papers. FIREFIGHTER DONALD ROWAN (pictured) and his brother Raymond, both parents of students in the Freeport District, let students tour their fire truck to see the tools of their trade up close.
