On Monday, February 4, at South Shore Health Care Center, in Freeport, she died. She migrated to New Jersey in the early 30's. She enrolled in the Rutgers • University School of Music. The young Ms. Wilson organized a band that celebrated the opening of the Newark airport during the Great Olivette Laura Wilson Stevenson Depression. Later, moving to the New York area, \she married William Stevenson. Olivette was commited to the commu- nity. She was a loyal member of the Nassau County Republican Party, work- ing for voter registration and serving as chairperson of the Voter Registration Board in Roosevelt. Among Olivette's community involvement included financial assis- tance for law students, the \Moxey Rigby Scholarship,\ in honor of the first black Nassau County Judge. Olivette's best loved civic organiza- tion was the American Legion - the Henry Morrison Deloney Auxiliary Post 785. She was a member since 1941 and served as secretary and president from 1972- 2001. Olivette was a highly religious woman who served her church, the Bethel African Methodist Church in Freeport, for more than 60 years.
