Describing his accomplishments at Sanitary District Number Two, Mr. Diana notes that he was a major force in proposing and coordinating the dis- trict's participation in the \Classy Can Program\ which will place 120 litter cans around the district in conjunction with sponsoring individuals and orga- nizations. He stresses that he has assisted in creating a more open door policy with the distict and has reached out to resi- dents within the district. He is the co-chair of the Keep America Beautiful Program which the sanitary district is develop- ing. He notes his participation in monitoring and reviewing- budget and expense evalu- ations and indi- cates that he has instilled a hands- on approach to code enforcement. The election for the five year term will take place on Thursday, July 26 from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Sanitary District Numer Two at 2080 Grand Avenue. Since the.district encompasses both Roosevelt and South Hempstead as well, voting will also take place at both the Centennial Avenue School and the Covert School. Also r u n n i n g for the position is Leroy Roberts, whose announcement of candidacy already appeared in The Leader. Open pools now To the editor: I have three subject areas I want to cover here as it relates to the reopening of the two Freeport neighborhood pools. First, let us congratulate each other for • the way we all, as a community, got involved so quickly and forcefully to insist to our Mayor and Village Beared that they rescind their closing order. That was teamwork in action. People were having barbecues, coffee sessions, and meetings all over Freeport to discuss this matter, and there was total unanimi- ty that the two pools must slay open. We told that enmasse to the Mayor and Board Monday night July 2nd, petitions were presented, and the next day Mayor Glacken and the Board rescinded their earlier closing order. Now, we must move ahead with maxi- mum vigor. We implore our village administration to give this the very high- est priority. Summer is here, the clock is ticking, it's now mid-July, and we request, or rather insist, that our munici- pal government move forward with the highest effort and speed. The children and families of Freeport are ready to use these two community pools, now; and we don't want to be bussed to the Recre- ation Center pool. Also, that \pool\ is not really \our\ pool, as was pointed out forcefully (with good specifics, details, and examples) by a number of residents at the above July 2 Village Board meet- ing, all reported very excellently in last week's Leader. I urge everyone to reread the applicable sections of last week's Leader. That would include the excellent meeting report by reporter Laraine A. Milazzo, the Letters to the Editor from John Helfrich and Reta Barry, and the summary editorial from The Leader edi- tor. Thirdly, .we as a community must be ready to be involved with \looking over\ or \being there\ at the pools, whenever we can .— just to be involved and look over things to make sure everything is going along smoothly. The police will come by with their patrols; there will be undercover officers around from time to time; but it's we the parents of the com- munity that must come out and be there. These are our pools, we own them, we're paying for their operation, and we want to assure calm use for all our chil- dren and families. We as parents must be involved. Speaking for myself, even though my children no longer live in town, I intend to bring a chair over and my cell phone, and read the paper. I'm not really a swimmer anymore, but I intend to share in being there just to look over things. I urge others join me. Bruce Lloyd Reassessment information from page 2 ricks and Bellmores and Freeport should expect the information about August 20, with Wantagh and Seaford following about September 10. Assessor Charles O'Shea, whose office is responsible for the reassessment pro- ject, stressed the importance of the infor- mation in the envelope. If it contains any errors, an envelope is provided to return the document for correction. \If it is cor- rect, save it,\ Mr. O'Shea advised, and keep it with your property documents.\ The eventual property assessment and the property tax will depend on it, Mr. O'Shea said.
