Eight spring athletes are qualined for the award. The Badm inton Sportsmanship Award was presented to Leeanne Feile She bss earned the sponsmanship award twice in two different sports 'Leeanne is a very competitive athlete but one wbo only valises a win if it is won fairly,” reflected Tennis Coach Linda Hendrickson. ~She is always honest with her line calls and plays with control and dignity.” added ^ d m im o n Coach Paulette Pearsall. “ Sophomore K a rl Steiogruebner pitches for the baseball team and has the potential to be an exceileni ball player. He's been nicknamed the “ gen tle giaoL” Oscar Abnendarez and Liu* rie C o llies shared more than their sponsmanship award in lacrosse. Both were members of the Oaas o f 199B, both gmduated in the top 15, both were memters of the Naiiottal Honor Society and both would like to play lacrosse in college. Evelyn Wslker’s pkehmg and hitting were done in sponsmanship-hke style OB the S o ftball Team w h ile Michael Mikotajezyk called the lines honestly and correctly for the tennis team. '■ Charles Jean>Louis and Aftneikha Campbell ran away with the track sponsmanship awards showirg great leadership, effort, support and class towards their own teammates as well as others. Occasionally, entire teams win the aponsmanship award at a county level and thus was the case w ith the B,'>v Baseball Team. The Nassau Counts Boys Baseball O fficials Association presented Coach Bob E)eBonis. Captain L uls Rodrigez and the Red Devils with the ^xmtsman&hip award for the second year in a row. Coach DcBonis felt Freeport was presented ihe award because “ we had a te rrific group of young men who knew the right way to win and the right way to lose. Freeport played some excitiD g -com e -ftom behind home wins but nobody ever gloated to the opponents about their accomplishments.” ” The teua sportsmanship award is i coveted award,” reflected A thletic Director Terrance liaise. “ It reflects the high values and morals o f the coach.
