p s tii 5 Freeport Public Schools Salute The Class of 1998 and Freeport High School for Outstanding Achievement in 1997-98 _ J | ^ ■.V T-ireeport can be proud I 7 ( of the fine young people at Freeport High School, and especially of the members of the Class of 1998, now graduating and moving on to higher education and the world of work. Their many accomplishments bring honor to our community! \11^ The seniors of the Class of 1998 have been sought after by top colleges and universities that include Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Penn Stale. Michigan Slate, virtually every unit of the State University of New York and Long island University, and other fine schools throughout the Eastern U S. *^1^ The Class of 1998 has been offered more than $1 million in scholarships and grants. ’^1^ FHS had three 1998 finalists in prestigious National Merit Corporation and College Board scholarship c o m ^ titions. The College Board named 14 students 1998 Advanced Placement Scholars in recognition of their lop performance in college-level courses they took at FHS. ’^1^ Nine members of Freeport's DECA, a nationwide organization for business and marketins students, won in DECA's State competition, and two students qualified for the national contest. \^1^ An FHS Future Problem Solving team captured yet another New York Championship and represented the State in the 1998 Intemalional Bowl at the University of Michigan. ^ 1 ^ Freeport High School's magnificent Select Chorale was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, highlighting a celebration of choral music. ■^1^ The math magazine of FHS, nf. won first place for the third consecutive year in the American Scholastic Press Association nationwide contest. ■^1^ The FHS Red Devils varsity football team won the 1998 Nassau County championship and the coveted Rutgers Cup. ■^1^ Our mathletes were 14th out of 100 schools participating in the Nassau County Interscholastic Mathematics League competition ■^1^ Freeport High School's newspaper, FlasHmgS. won its thirteenth Newsday School Journalism award, this time in the News Writing category ■^1^ Two Freeport High School students represented New York State at the national finals of the African-American History Contest sponsored by the ^^c•w York City-based organization. 1C*0 Black Men AY % n. \>l
